IOS Playlist PSA

Quick PSA, if you’re on IOS and have a habit of making and shuffling large playlist, you can add that to the pile of dead functions. Small playlists, below 100 hrs of content seem to work fine, anything more than that is just too much for the garbage new app, which is great, because just last month I was thinking about how I really needed someone to reign in my ability to shuffle large playlists and see random shows and movies without having to agonize over what to pick or waste time finding something! Thanks plex, I was for sure enjoying myself way too much, while you’re at it, why not go ahead and double, no triple the monthly plex pass price for the good work of functionality stripping you’ve done!

What exactly isn’t working for you?
I have several smart playlists with 600-700 hours of media each, which I shuffle almost daily.

Sorry to buzz in. I’ve see some of your recent posts and I’ve been missing what/how exactly things no longer work for you (beyond „none of those tiny-library-owners can understand“).

Don’t get me wrong… I’ve seen a lot of substantial feedback on issues with the new experience apps. I share some of that grievance but not all.
If you want to post a „PSA“, I was hoping for some specifics beyond an „it’s bad“ opinion. Maybe there’s something not yet reported and your feedback could help addressing those issues.

Playlists above 1000hrs no longer load, let alone play, playlists are no longer centrally located, playlist shuffle is completely broken, restarting episodes, playing the same 3-4 episodes over and over if it doesn’t crash in the mean time. And that’s not even touching on the sad state of downloads in regards to playlists. And no, it’s not me, it’s not the computers or the network, it’s the new update, everything functioned before hand, now not so much. And I’m not the only one.

I didn’t say „it’s you“ — I merely asked what and how it’s not working (because I couldn’t reproduce such issues with my 600-700 hrs playlist vs the 100 hr playlist mentioned in your OP). Now you’ve clarified.

I’m not saying you’ve said that, I’m talking about all the plex inc apologists who are bending over backwards to act as if this whole thing isn’t the platform doing a 180 and sprinting backwards with all our money.

I’ve seen very few users actually behaving like this.
Though, it appears a lot who argue (a) it’s not all bad and (b) there’s improvements / issues raised are getting fixed tend to be yelled down (I’m not arguing you did, just observing)

I won’t start/proceed that discussion here.
There’s already enough threads for that.

Movie and tv playlists no longer work. they keep looping the one item.

Would you mind sharing some more details (e.g. the exact version of the Plex app, same experience with all playlists)?
jdmaur implied this might be linked to the size of a playlist — though I cannot seem to repdroduce. Shuffling a large playlist was working fine on my system yesterday (using the tvOS TestFlight preview version 2025.18.0).

From what I can see it may be related to size or length of play time. Movies seem to never progress to a next item. TV shows, varying in length, seem to progress except when they are movie length, but I haven’t been able to find an exact time point or pattern.

I am currently using iPadOS client version 2025.18.0 (1109) and the Plex version is Version 1.41.8.9834.

I’ve noted that the iOS version only has the option to “shuffle playlist” where as the browser version has more controls but not sure if this is related.

I should have said movies just loop on the same movie even though there are multiple movies in the playlist.

How about Plex just releases an alternative app that does not include the “experience” so i can get playlists working? That and provide some real support where I can log a bug ticket?

Confirmed it is the app. Safari browser works fine so I guess I’m stuck with that for now. Shame on you plex.
