iOS Plex App 1 minute playback restriction

Hi,

Just wanted to know, I keep getting this pop up on my plex ios app, to activate.

I was thinking that I can stream locally using the app for free. It has been that way for quite some time now.

And then this happened today and it wants me to activate. Thoughts? TIA

It’s been that way for a very long time: Plex’ mobile apps are not free. You can unlock them as part of a Plex Pass membership or via a one-time activation (in-app purchase).

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the reply. So for the past Feb2020 until today, was i on a trial version? I have been using the app and it just started today. Also when i try to activate everything is greyed out.

There’s no trial version – the standard behavior is to be limited to 1 minute unless you’re a Plex Pass member or have purchased the one-time-activation. And it’s been like this for years… so definitely no a thing that happened since Feb.
You can probably call it a lucky glitch.

What do you mean that everything is greyed out (e.g. grey screen vs. greyed-out buttons)?
Are you able to open settings and bring up the Activate and Upgrade screen?
Do you get to clicking Activate or is that already blocked for you? (trying to understand if it’s a problem in the app or with Plex communicating with the App Store to bring up the in-app-purchase modal)

Jumping in on this thread. I paid the one time Activation fee through iTunes for iPhone Plex app. After 1 minute of streaming I get the “Playback Limit” notification and click activate. That takes me to “Upgrade” page. On this page under"You can remove playback restrictions…", the “Activate” button is not enabled and I can’t click it. Same with “Subscribe to Plex Pass” button. I have already activated the app on another device and that worked. I am signed in. I tried deleting the app and reinstalling but get the same issue. Any ideas on how to fix it?

Are you using the same Apple ID on both devices?
Can you click “restore previous purchases”?
