Please try again. Nothing attached.
Ah yes.
Free users ( non-PlexPass ) are limited
Was the app previously activated and you upgraded or did you uninstall/re-install?
Yes free, I’m not a Plexiglas pass subscriber,
It’s been working for years…
It just happened this week, again, previously disappear, but popped up on one of the i|Pad’s, now see 2nd of them have it, 3rd not, is working.
Did do a App and a server upgrade.
But why… never before told I have to pay to use PLEX server not connect to Plex site/Pass.

Limited as in how…

From the support article linked by ChuckPa:
- Our mobile apps (Android and iOS) can be used for free, but have limitations.
- Until the mobile app is unlocked (through an in-app purchase or a Plex Pass subscription), video and music streamed from a Plex Media Server has a 1 minute limit, and photos will be watermarked.
If you never unlocked it (one-time activation or Plex Pass membership) and it had worked for you before… count yourself lucky and consider it an Easter gift from Plex.

This has always worked, when I started using it it was not required to have a plexus pass if you not using plex streaming,
so they now change their licenses, fording people that run a pet plex server to buy plex pass. if this is the case then I’ll look at changing my server, have loved it, kids and family know it, but thats a deal breaker for me,
if it was free for on prem only use then to should stay that way.
That $4.99 is that per device, or for all devices on site.

I strongly recommend to read the articles.
One-Time Purchase in the App
Users who don’t have a Plex Pass subscription—and aren’t interested in a subscription—can unlock Plex for iOS through a simple, one-time purchase.
The purchase is tied to your Apple ID. You can download and use on any iOS device, when using the Apple ID that made the original purchase. The purchase does not extend to a different Apple ID, nor does it extend to other app stores, such as Amazon or Google Play.
Warning! : In-app purchases cannot be refunded, so we encourage you to test the functionality of the app prior to purchasing!
In other words:
They are now enforcing the activation requirement.
ye and there in lies my problem, they allowed me to use it without activation/paying, for 4-5 yrs now… now that I’m well hooked, they they enforce it, this is basically holding me hostage, don’t appreciate it.
If I was allowed to use it without activation/paying, then they need to continue that service with those options perpetuity.
They welcome to lock my features to that, if I want more features, as being released then pay for the upgrade.

Is it correct that Amazon Firestick has no restrictions but playing through my iPad I would have to purchase a Plex Pass?
Not 100% accurate.
Long story short… you can also activate Plex on your iPad without a monthly membership.
It’s only $4.99 for a one time activation, it’s more than a fair price for actively developed product.
Think about the money your saving at the Gas station, you won’t miss the $5.00. Unfortunately a good lurk has come to an end, nothing much in life is free.
… so trying to authorise, it only gives me subscription option and a restore…
no authorise.
is there a way i can check if it’s authorised, it does say no subscription at one point.
I’ve deleted the app and redownlaoded, I’ve logged out and back in, both with google account and with the appleid account, which happen to be tied to the same email address.

The Activate
option from your screenshot from April 10 is no longer showing?
It should definitely show as an option under Settings
in the Activate & Upgrade
section.
If you activated the app for that Apple ID in the past, you should alternatively be able to re-activate by clicking Restore Purchase
from the same section (it’ll also tell you if the App Store has no record of such a purchase)
Once it’s activated, you will no longer get a reminder to remove restrictions.
No need to delete / re-download / install the app or logging in from scratch. Also… jumping between different logins will do you no good – the app activation is connected to your Apple ID.
Edit:
see the support article posted on April 10:
I’m trying to activate in the application, on my wife’s iPad.
this is on that same device, it popped that screen up earlier, after closing app wife came to me complaining, so i removed the app, re-installed it, logged out, logged back in, went settings, upgrade and now only getting subscribe to plex pass and a restore… (problem restore is grey’d out).
no where does it give me option to “activate” under settings.
is there any other place where I can see if it has been activated.

Sounds more like an issue with the App Store. Is that iPad signed into the app store with an Apple ID?
yes…
What version of iOS and the Plex app are we talking about? Still the latest version of Plex?
