iOS Plex Player/Plexamp skipping through to the end or middle of music tracks

I’ve been using the iOS Plex and PlexAmp apps to play .wav files from my Synology server, compressed to 320kb/s for the phone, and have had a lot of issues with tracks being automagically forwarded to very near the end of the track (~5-10 seconds from the end), and a few that skip forward to some random spot in the middle of the track. This behavior occurs on both streaming and downloaded tracks. It also does it when streaming uncompressed files on the home network. As best as I can tell, the tracks that are skipping ahead are ones that have been played before, and the playback was forcably stopped (bluetooth disconnect from the car for example) or the app was closed while the track was playing. I’m wondering if there is some kind of flag that’s being set to indicate where a track was stopped, but when the track is played again from another queue, the flag is still set and playback is moved to where the flag says to restart the track from. To add to this, pressing the back-skip button after the next track has started will return the skipped track to the same jump spot a few times, but after those few times, the problem for that track seems to be cleared.

For the record:

  • Sweet Fades disabled/enabled have the same behavior
  • Equalizer disabled/enabled have the same behavior
  • Music Quick Skip is disabled
  • Loudness Leveling is enabled

Does this make sense to anyone? It’s a weird and frustrating problem.

Turn off store track progress in your music library settings.

Good idea, I’ll try that for debugging.

That being said, it seems that if this is really the issue, the logic behind the feature needs more refinement, i.e. if the track is being restarted from outside of itself (skipped into from other track, next in queue from album/playlist, etc.), especially if coming from a different player, ignore and delete the previous progress info. Or add a timeout to the flag for some number of hours. Song tracks aren’t usually like movies or TV episodes where story continuity is important over long times.

The setting is intended for audiobook libraries.

I SUPER hope turning off this setting will fix my issues. I’ve been running plexamp on my pi streamer everyday for a long while now and its only done this skippy thing the last 2 weeks (about the time of the latest plexamp update)…I’m doubtfull this is a remembered track progress, though that was my first thought too, but its happening too much too often. Sometimes it’s skip, skip ,skip till a song will actually play… I rarely skip tracks myself. I’ll report back if no skips today…fingers crossed.

well tested this today and non stop gapless audio all day YAY…

Anyone knpw why this just started?.

Acually I also had another issue that started a few weeks ago and didn’t happen today…random stopping and droppong of complete current queue.

Yep, this seems to have solved my problem too. And now that I know the context is only for audiobooks, this makes sense. I’ll still ask that this feature is further refined. Coming into a track (audiobook or music) from another track and having it jump unexpectedly is jarring. Maybe a prompt to ask if you want to pickup from where you left of using verbiage that would let people search for the setting on the server (I didn’t even realize this setting was here for music).

Anyhow, thanks for the solve Jason.
