Trying to listen to content in FLAC format using PlexAmp on my Pixel 5 running Android 11 (latest) in my car (2021 Audi). Frequently, when it moves to the next track, it randomly jumps ahead in the track anywhere from 30s to 1m 30s. Content is not downloaded to my device.
I have the same issue. I’ll try disabled Store Track Progress. This seems like a bug though? I listen to my playlist on random during the gym and don’t skips any songs, but it seems like every 2/3 of the time it’ll just start the next song 15seconds from the end. It’s super annoying during a run or workout
I’ll try disabling “Store Track Progress” and let you know if that helps.
I can confirm that Store Track Progress is enabled on the library. And I can try disabling it. I also saw a related post that indicated I will need to re-download the content.
But… it seems like I normally would want Store Track Progress enabled. If I leave my car and close PlexAmp (or Plex), the next time I open it (typically in the car), I want to pick up where I left off. In a perfect world, I’d like to be able to do that across devices.
Or does Store Track Progress work differently than I am expecting?
Store track progress
The server will remember where you left off in a track. Playing that track in a supported app will then resume from where you left off.
I believe the key phrase is Playing that track. If the target use-cases are primarily long DJ mixes or audiobooks, then I’m guessing the expected user journey is something like the following:
In one supported player, find your audiobook and start playing it.
Pause or close the player.
In a different player, find the audiobook and start playing it.
Audiobook resumes where you left off on the other device.
As you guessed, I had a poorly thought out idea of what I wanted to do… and it wasn’t this particular use case. I think I just assumed, without verifying, that Plex/PlexAmp would lose track of where I was in a playlist when I close the app. Apparently I was worried about a problem that doesn’t exist.
That said, I still think something wonky is going on … probably specifically related to Store track progress. In the situation the last couple of days, I’ve been listening to the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy radio play in FLAC format. Most of the tracks are in the range of 3-8 minutes. I happen to have dumped it into my main music library, which also happened to have the Store track progress setting enabled.
I get in my car, connect my phone, and start playing from PlexAmp. Here’s what makes me think something is wonky. I have never listened to this content in Plex before this. I only played the content: from my phone, via PlexPass, while in the car. Which leaves me puzzled why PlexPass frequently jumped ahead roughly 1m 30s when starting a new track.
My only guess is because it’s not recognized properly in a music library somehow it’s getting another item’s offset. Logs would show more if you uploaded them right after.
Bad news / good news. The bad news is that I don’t have any logs to show the wonkiness. The good news is that disabling * Store Track Progress* was indeed the secret sauce (which is why I don’t have logs showing the problem). Listened for probably 1.5 hours while driving over the weekend and it didn’t jump around at all. Thanks!
