iOS Plexamp skips through all tracks and won't play anything at all - mp3 320bps

I’ve tried to use Plexamp to play my music collection, but it just flat-out will not work at all. All I’m trying to do here is play an mp3 - any mp3. You’d think this would be a pretty basic function to have nailed. It brings up the track, then immediately skips to the next, and so on, until it gets to the last track in the folder/album. That’s it. That’s all it does. It won’t play anything at all.

How could something this basic about a music player be so broken?

My first guess, based on the description, would be that you have “Store Track Progress” enabled in the advanced settings of your music library.

Thanks. I did have that enabled. I disabled it on the library, exited the app, restarted the service, reconnected, and still have the same problem. I tried several files with lower bitrates so it isn’t that.

Do these tracks play in other Plex clients?
For instance the web app or the regular Plex client for iOS?

Please post some logs (Settings > Advanced > Debugging) so we can see what’s going on. Otherwise we’re just guessing

I think I fixed it. I don’t know if this is related, but I checked the logs and it was throwing a JSON parsing error: Jun 25, 2022 16:08:01.247 [Javascript] INFO - ViewState: Error loading from storage., JSON Parse error: Unexpected token: u

The name of the top-level folder was “Albums, Concerts & Recordings” or something like that. I changed it to “Albums-Concerts” - removing all spaces, the comma and the special character. I have also disabled the “Store Track Progress” feature. Anyhow it now seems to be working.

Innocuous.

Glad to hear, it sounds like the server may have had trouble accessing the files.

I’m certain it was the special characters in the file path. I could retest fairly easily. The network share is mounted and works fine, and I am able to browse it no problem in file explorer. It was only Plex that was choking on it. It is either the “,”, the spaces, or the “&” in the folder name.

Right, the file names could have made them inaccessible to the server for some reason. Is this a Windows server, and can you give me any more details around the network share?
