I don’t know if this is an app problem or a server problem (starting to suspect server…), but I am seeing the same behavior on android mobile app and ipad app (EDIT: and roku app). Initially I unlocked the ipad app, but then out of frustration to see if it fixed anything i bought the plex pass. It did not fix anything.
The issue: trying to transcode and play back transcoded video on ipad or android mobile doesn’t work. The playback never starts. The app just shows a black screen with the little spinning icon.
Direct playback of the media I am trying to transcode works fine.
I can see that the transcoding happens successfully by monitoring the transcode directory on the server.
The same media plays back transcoded (mostly) fine through the web player. (exception: 1080i is choppy… I have made another post about this)

media trying to playback: live TV streams. These are MPEG2 video at either 1080i, 720p, or 480p with AC3 audio (these are coming from an HDHomeRun Prime).

Please do not reply with “why not just playback without transcode”. The answer is for bandwidth reasons when out of the house. The source videos come in at 10-20mbps. Cell phone downlink isn’t always reliable enough to maintain those speeds.
