IPad - Cannot make sense of Download function

Player Version#: 8.6
Running IPad Pro (Latest, IOS 15.6)

The Downloads function is totally perplexing (sorry). I am not sure ti works correctly.

  • The does not appear to a 'master" stop or cancel downloads. The app seems to be stuck one the downloads are started. I cannot find a way to cancel, or clear download s setting in one go and restart.
  • I cannot delete an entire season that have already been downloaded. Can only delete individual episodes.
  • The cancel download function for and entire season does nothing. Individual episode continue to download despite the cancel order for the entire season to which they belong. You still have to traverse each individual episode and cancel the download while it is happening.
  • 50% episodes fail to download - an error occurs. I delete them and restart the download and it OK at the next attempt.
  • If I make changes, IE cancel some downloads etc, the app will not update what is being downloaded until I restarted the app.

It seems to me that the app treats the selection quite literally. For example: if I select to download a single episode it is treated as individual entity to download, delete, stop download. Likewise if select and entire season, it is treated as an single entity in its entirety. With the latter individual episodes within the season cannot be stopped, delete etc. I can only manipulate the season in its entirety as if it be an individual entity, hence the above behaviors. Also downloading and entire season seems to generate less errors.

What would be useful if:

  1. I can complete pause the download
  2. Change what is downloaded
  3. Multi select episodes with a season, instead of an episode at a time, or an entire season. There seems to nothing in between.
  4. Multi select downloaded items to delete.

I’ve got the same issue, all iOS devices won’t use downloads, they all get hung up. Neither will they try to do a download over cellular. (Both devices are allowed to download over cellular).

iOS version 8.6

My downloads mostly work. My setup uses a Linux based container to run the media centre. The media centre works relatively hard when preparing downloads, (my ios settings are to keep the file video and audio stream original, however optimized for the target device). The local network (wifi) is also set up to quite resilient. That part is working well enough, for streaming etc. I do not allow downloads over cellular network.

I find that if I schedule a large an number of individual episodes I see a randomly high failure rate. However if I schedule an entire season, there is rarely an issue.

The biggest problem in this post’s case is IOS download controls and interface. I think there may be a fundamental issue in how the PLEX client handles individual episodes vs entire seasons and how the client’s download and local storage control with respect what is downloaded. It seems very confused.

From the Downloads library, go to the items tab. Slide the item you want to stop or delete.

I cannot delete an entire season that have already been downloaded. Can only delete individual episodes.

Downloads are tracked by what you download. If you download a season, you delete the entire season. If you download single episodes, you delete each single episode. Same with movies, entire TV shows, playlists, etc.

The cancel download function for and entire season does nothing. Individual episode continue to download despite the cancel order for the entire season to which they belong. You still have to traverse each individual episode and cancel the download while it is happening.

How did you cancel? See my comment above about what you can cancel/delete.

50% episodes fail to download - an error occurs. I delete them and restart the download and it OK at the next attempt.

We are still investigating issues. If you can reproduce and provide logs from the app that would help.

If I make changes, IE cancel some downloads etc, the app will not update what is being downloaded until I restarted the app.

What changes are you referring to?
