Hi all. Sorry if this has been answered before, but if it has, I could not find it. I’ve been looking to lower my Live TV costs and cut out Cable-TV altogether but every time I have tried in the past, I have been hoodwinked by some crappy subscription services that buffer more than anything else. So if anyone is using any and you are happy with your service, Please let me know. It can be thru Plex or Roku or a HTPC as they are all modes of viewing around here so any info is greatly appreciated. If anyone knows of one with a Set-Top Box type like a Cable-TV box, that would be cool too as I take care of my Parents and they don’t like change so anything that’s closest to that experience (Cable-TV channel surfing mostly as they are flippers) even if I have to buy them an extra Box or 2 since IPTV if I can get one that actually works seems like I’d save $ even if I bought extra STB’s, that would be the icing on the cake so thanks again friends and be well… -Tony
IPTV discussions unrelated to any of Plex’s own services are a violation of the forum user agreement. No one discusses about these matters on the forum boards. A mod will take action if this is becomes spam.
WTF are you Talking about? I said in Plex. If this is how this place operates, I should leave for good because it;s going to crap when you cant discuss something like IPTV subscriptions and what works for other members. IPTV CANT BE RUN THROUGH PLEX OR WHAT? I was under the impression that it could,. This place is getting as bad as the Gestapo running the World right now. Everyone has to be in charge and feel like they are an Authority! I am sick and tired of BS. If anyone can recommend me a Service, PLEASE DO. One that WORKS! IF they dont work inside Plex, Then Say so but this place is really going downhill if this is going to be shushed! We Helped build this place & now we cant discuss certain topics unless Plex Approves? Give me a F’n Break. Really fed up with all the BS in the world today.
This isn’t anything new. Plex was originally a fork long long ago, then became proprietary and then a walled garden within the past 5 years due to many additional issues and changes along the journey. Plugins were gutted due to nefarious activity, along with IPTV channels and may have been a potential threat to the security to our servers. Then Kodi themselves had to get tight gripped on their own app because of pie ratcy with IPTV plugins. Then with Plex again having other security issues here and there with other protocols. Oh, and unlike the rest of the alternatives out there, Plex has had VC money and lawyers to be ambitious but also cautious in the kind of things they can go into, cuz other lawyers exist from other companies.
This isn’t anything new! And there are alternatives. Just type it in the search and you’ll see many guys with their pitchforks out asking the same thing.
Currently the only thing that most of us want is a feature like the iOS app CHANNELS has called TV EVERYWHERE. Having the ability to DVR from legal streaming services is a possibility but hasn’t been publicly talked about on here. PLEX is pretty tight lipped about stuff.
Asking resources or websites that provide IPTV services that may or may not be shady isnt something we can conduct on here.
Plex doesn’t allow IPTV directly. You will have to add a proxy like xTeVe or TellyTV. Then you can add them as tv tuners, add the xml file location to Plex and then hope it all works. But asking bluntly about who and what IPTV service works isn’t something to chat about here.
There are literally guides on other sites if you just do a Google search.
So are you saying that IPTV is illegal? Because I am under the impression that most are not. The fact that we cant discuss things without having a lawyer present is insane. I have looked again all day yesterday and every time I thought I had an IPTV that was decent, I would find a list of people that had complaints about it so I think I found the guides you speak of but they are not reliable and others claiming “Best of 2021” are just out to make a $ promoting any site they can, which is why I decided to ask here. If it’s illegal, I’ll leave it alone but they are lying to people if so and you would think intelligent people would go after these ads first if they in the Digital Police wanted to actually get things done but I guess there’s too much $$$$ To be made for them to do that. Thanks for the info & understand I am not mad with you but this censorship in general and if it has been a common knowledge thing, maybe al that info should be at the top in a Topic that gives all the pertinent info regarding what can and cannot be discussed anymore. I knew the plugins were removed but didn’t really know why since you had to have a subscription for most apps. Thanks
I didn’t take your anger personally and wanted to just inform you the basics of what’s caused the shifts. Plex needed to do whatever it needed to do to steer itself clear of pie ratcy, loop holes, and make the ultimate decisions to neglect a percentage of paying customers. It sucks but it’s business. Lawyers were ready to pounce at the ready both on Plex and Kodi at the time. Kodi had issues in the tech news media with paid IPTV services using Android boxes to illegitimately access content. Plex needed to cut all ties to these avenues as well and in doing so have been trying to invest heavily in working with media partners to work hand in hand to provide free or new legal services in Plex. If you are in need of solely using IPTV, there are alternatives. Just not directly in Plex.
Thanks very much for all the info. I will keep looking and hope I get one that is legit & reasonable because this Comcast is just ridiculous with Added Fees just to rake the consumer like the Broadcast TV Fee nonsense. They make it sound like a Government surcharge si they push the blame on them while they rake you and if it was just me, Comcast would have been gone long ago I hardly ever use it myself. Yes there are legit IPTV services but they all cost about the same as cable. Any other IPTV service that offer hundreds of channels for cheap are the ones you need to stay away from as they are not legit and will costately have issues.
