Is 1.3m and 500k files typical for plex?

So, after messing up my docker and corrupting docker.img, I’m now going through restore tasks.

Not a huge deal, got nightly and existing data in place but what I noticed is that plex server contains over 1.38 million folders and 500k files… I know it likes creating a ton of files for everything but even then, this seems very excessive, restore task taking forever with the amount of tiny files.

is this really typical? anything I should do after it’s back on to reduce the size? all schedules are running daily (5hours in early morning hours, with no other io tasks).

Now my library isn’t exactly small, and I can appreciate that but overall I’m looking at around 200movies, 1500 tv eps and 10k photos and 500 videos

Yep.

Be glad you weren’t around back in the days when those bundled bits of data had to go to the recycle bin… took days (literally) to empty the recycle bin.

If something happened (again x4) and I had to think about rebuilding my Plexiverse - I’d just start over from scratch. Finding the metadata for 10s (100s?) of thousands of correctly named, structured and previously matched media items is nothing, but a thing. It’s the 2 months of Thumbnail Re-Generation that really gets me down… lol

damn… welp been running for good 6 hours now and barely half way through.

I did briefly consider going from scratch again but only just rebuilt it last week and custom matching, posters and season names took half a day, not to mention caching and indexing took 3. I’ll let it complete for now I guess.

The trick to long life and happiness in the Plexiverse is to properly name and structure ALL material for instant first time matches. That way you only have to fix what Plex fumbles (15% +/-).

Now seems like an excellent time to do that.
One Word:
FileBot

ye and like 90% of it does, but just indexing alone makes server unusable for 2-3days, massive library, to be expected.

also moved to sonarr and radarr naming, which I’m happy with, main issue that a big chunk of my tv series is actually anime, which can be tricky sometimes to keep consistent between systems (sonarr tvbd and plex mal agent etc).

huh and after all that plex booted, fixed perms and couldnt find any server online, nice… back to square one

Not to dig up an old topic but yep. Typical for some.

Hey,

yeah does seem quite similar to mine, most of my media is anime which has plenty of meta to go with it, but still seems crazy, its almost 3 folders to a single file.
