I think I know the answer, but am looking for confirmation. I see words on the Plex/Plex-Pass web pages that a Plex Pass is required for a headless RasberryPi Plexamp player. But do not see a more general statement.
My question is this: is a Plex Pass required for ANY headless Linux Plexamp player? I believe the answer is yes, as (I believe) the same JavaScript is used for all Linux headless players. It’s possible, but not likely that is looks at the platform.
So can someone confirm that a Plex Pass is needed for ANY Linux headless Plexamp player to function? I can get the headless player running on an Ubuntu x86 VM, but not able to Play, nor able to be controlled remotely. I’ve been looking at Player log files…. Nothing obvious, but I’m still learning about the Plex infrastructure.
@elan I’m curious, is it necessary for other household members to have a Plex Pass to play on a headless Plexamp where the owner/admin has a Plex Pass but the other users don’t? Lots of conflicting messages on the internet.
I see. Then it’s a networking issue on my side. @elan i’m curious about the decision on having two paths for headless player discovery: api for owners and ssdp for the other users - aren’t these separate paths creating more user friction than necessary?
Hello, I’m testing and troubleshooting the headless setup before committing to the pass. Question is: the pass is needed “to use it” or also “to see it”? Because it’s not appearing among device to cast to… Thanks.
