Is anyone having an issue with plex skipping the last 1-5 minutes of media?

Ever since the last update when I am streaming media through my chromecast plex auto advances to the next thing in my playlist before what I’m currently watching is through. I am not sure exactly how much time is left on the previous show/movie because it marks it as completely watched but it is between 1 and 5 minuets for sure. Is this a common bug right now? Is anyone else having an issue like this?

Yes. I was just coming to the forum to post the same issue. Seems to happen on my Roku but not off of PC (at least when the PC is the same machine as the plex server.
Server Version: 1.9.7.4441

Yes - https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/295160/server-version-1-9-7-4441-quits-playing-before-the-end-of-the-file#latest and https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/295335/1-9-7-4441-chromecast-stream-of-tv-show-skips-final-20-and-loads-next-episode#latest - it only does it IF the content has to be transcoded, I’ve had to optimise all the stuff that normally gets transcoded - and playback works fine if playing optimised versions.

Yes, happening for me as well with PMS on Windows and Roku as the client.

Did this just start after the last update for everyone else?

Yes - a few versions back, the release notes said this problem had been fixed. Now that it is apparently fixed - I’m having the problem (I didn’t have it before) - it started for me yesterday after the server did an automatic update overnight.

Experiencing the same problem when watching via Roku, the problem does not occur when watching via Plex Web on PMS PC. Began when I upgraded to Version 1.9.7.4441. I’m very annoyed and considering downgrading to prior version.

I did some testing and it does appear to be triggered by the “Transcoder default throttle buffer” setting, it appears to stop playback approximately 5 seconds prior to the buffer setting (if the buffer is set for 60 it will halt playback at around 65 seconds prior to the end of file). As most files have at least 15 seconds of credits at the end, I set “Transcoder default throttle buffer” to 10. This isn’t ideal but it’s working for me.

Also seems to be working for me.

As mentioned earlier, there is an issue with 1.9.7.4441 beta release which is affecting roku and chromecast streaming of mkv files and ending the playback a minute or so before the end.

There are a number of forum threads on this

Until a fix is released, you can downgrade to the public release 1.9.6.4429 available from https://plex.tv/downloads

On windows to downgrade, you must uninstall 1.9.7.4441 through control panel / add or remove programs before installing 1.9.6.4429

The hotfix for the early exit when playing transcoded media is now available as Plex Pass Beta Release 1.9.7.4460
