Running latest embedded version (Raspberry PI 3 B)
Is it possible to change the name “PlexMediaPlayer” in something else? Like Livingroom or Bedroom?
It is difficult to see which one is which one because if you have multiple PI’s like me, they show up under the same name.
A little more info? Where does the player information appear?
Settings > Devices > Media Player?
If so, I believe the only way to differentiate there, is to rename the PI in it’s own O/S. Depending on where you’re looking, Plex will display the device name before/instead of client name. I renamed all my Rokus to work around this same issue.
The player information appears when you tap the monitor icon in the upper right corner of the official plex app for ios or android.
The player information also appears when you press the source button on your tv remote (hdmi-cec)
Still searching for a way to change the hdmi-cec name, I edited boot.cfg and added cec_osd_name=Livingroom but that change it only for about 1 minute while raspberry is starting up, after that it’s named ‘Plex’ again, how to make the change persist?
Not sure if you figured this out yet but you change it in plexmediaplayer.conf:
cat .local/share/plexmediaplayer/plexmediaplayer.conf | grep systemname
"systemname":
I figured that out indeed
Thanks!
