Is it possible to link HD Homerun tv tuner to Plex that is on a different home ip network?

Is it possible to link HD Homerun tv tuner to Plex (on QNAP NAS) that is on a different home ip network? If so, how to get Plex to “see” the HD Homerun tuner?

The tuner should only need to be on the same subnet as your PMS for automatic discovery by PMS. You can, however, manually enter your tuner’s IP address in PMS and have it find it. In the Live TV & DVR settings in the Plex Web App, click Add Device and then click Don't see your device… to manually enter an IP address or hostname.

Thanks. However, my Plex (NAS) server is at a different physical location (and network) than my tuner. IP address for both are just the local (different) given IP address. Is there a way to give an IP address for this remote location of the tuner?

There are some limitations to the HDHomeRuns with this. Here’s some info on how to do this with remote connections: https://stuff.purdon.ca/?page_id=472

Can you ping the Homerun?

I tried this accross two VLANs. The signal from the HomeRun kept dropping out and the recordings either dropped completely or kept breaking up. I think you may have problems even if you can see the tuner in plex.

This configuration isn’t a supported setup, so it’s going to be experimental. Plex DVR is designed and tested to work with the tuner and PMS being on the same local network and SiliconDust also requires them to be on the same network. So the link I gave you was to give it a try, but your mileage will vary. Additionally, SiliconDust limits the number of hops to 3, so that could be why you are experiencing drops.

I gave up in the end and went back to the simple system. Serves me right for trying to be too clever! I think you will have the same problems.
