My primary Plex server is on my Linux system. I also have a Plex server running in a Windows VM, the VM being hosted on the same Linux box.
The VM is not always running. I generally just use it for testing. But Plex seems to be constantly re-trying the connection. Is it possible to turn this off, or set a max number of retries? There doesn’t seem to be a way that I can find.
Just remove the server from the list (in that left pane) and it will no longer attempt to contact it.
It periodically poll the known servers to verify still available. By removing from the list, it won’t check it.
Sorry, meant to mention that. I don’t want it to permanently stop. I want it to be there when the VM is running. I would just like it to try 3 or 4 times, then stop trying until I tell it to try again.
The Web app doesn’t know what you’re doing with your servers.
It only knows whether to retry or not.
It might be nice if the retry interval lengthened but then what would happen when you do start the server? It wouldn’t look for it until that next retry interval which might have reached the maximum. Then what? Wait X hours? I don’t think there’s an easy compromise here but will talk to the web team.
There is the manual Retry button.
Here’s what I’m thinking:
I log into my active server while the VM with second server is off.
Web app tries 3 times (that could be configurable) to connect with the VM server, then stops trying.
Sometime later the VM is turned on.
The user would have to select the VM server in the sidebar, and click the Retry Connection button.
Another solution would be a “stop trying” button.
So the bottom line is, the answer to my original question appears to be “No (without removing the server).” So I should make this a feature request. It’s not a big deal, just a minor annoyance, and I don’t know if it drags on performance much. I just unpinned that library, so the visual annoyance of that spinner is out of the way.
