Prevent Plex from continuously trying to reconnect to an offline server

Is it possible to prevent Plex from trying to reconnect to an offline server? I know I could remove the server but I don’t want to do that as it’s a valuable server, I just don’t want to have it online all the time.

When I view my list of servers, I always see it’s trying to connect to the offline/unavailable server. I’d like to be able to say, ‘ignore this server for now’ or something like that. Maybe a checkbox that says ‘mark as offline’ or something idk. I just don’t want plex to continuously try to connect to a server that I know is purposefully offline.

Thanks

Apps will stop trying to connect to unavailable servers after a few days.

Plex Web doesn’t appear to stop. Even so, “days” seems excessive.

Yes, trying to connect for days is definitely excessive. Appreciate the inside information though. I guess as long as I let my PC run for a few days and never shut it down after that there’s no problem… /s

It doesn’t matter whether the Plex client is running or not. What matters is the last time the inactive server has made contact with plex.tv

So, if I leave my server that I don’t want to connect to off for a few consecutive days then no other clients will attempt to connect to it? I appreciate the clarification, but I still see that as a problem.

I’d prefer to have full control over my servers and clients and not have to keep track of how long a server has been off or feel pressured to keep servers offline, simply so my clients won’t continue to try to connect to them.

I realize you’re just providing additional information and again I do appreciate knowing and understanding how things work but it’s still something we should have more control over.

Why would you feel pressured?
Simply ignore it.
If you have no libraries from that server pinned to your side bar, you usually won’t even notice the connection attempts in the background.

So don’t share your server. Pretty sure it’s as simple as that.

As I’ve stated, it’s a valuable server and I use it quite frequently. I can pin and unpin so I don’t see it but is that really the best solution? Not having a client continuously try to connect to an offline server would be better than “simply ignore it”.

Okay…

Unpinning is the best you can do. There is no other method at the moment.

The architecture of Plex is geared towards servers which are available continuously.
I understand that this doesn’t cover all use cases, but that is what it is at the moment.

I understand that and thanks for clarifying how it works. My post was really just looking for options and to bring awareness to a specific need. I’m almost surprised something as simple as reconnect attempts/frequency isn’t an option.

I have some relatives that also have plex servers. What is really annoying is that if they visit then their laptops and phones still try to connect to their local plex servers. This floods my firewall with useless requests.
