Is it possible to use only my metadata? Over the past several years I have used an iTunes/Apple TV setup and have 470 movies I’ve ripped using Handbrake and then I used MetaX to apply my metadata to the ripped movie files. Everything worked good when I used iTunes/Apple TV on my old Mac but I was running out of hard drive space. I’ve just purchased a new Mac Mini and copied everything over to an external hard drive and have switched to Plex. Everything works great except for all the movies I copied over to the new system Plex shows the year of the movie as 2012. So if I go into the Plex client on my Roku and look at the movies by release date all 470 movies show up as though they were all released December 2012.
I think Plex is pulling the movie date from the date the file was copied from my old Mac to the new external hard drive. I tried letting Plex pull the metadata from the internet but many of the movies were mis-tagged and showed up wrong. I have the metadata I want already attached to the movie files. Just need to know if it’s possible to force Plex to use only that metadata.
Thanks in advance!
I haven't tried it myself, but there may be some useful information here: http://wiki.plexapp.com/index.php/PlexNine_PMS_ScannerAgent#Setting_Agent_Preferences
Try unchecking all agents except for "local media assets", rescanning and see what you get?
I'd like to do this, too, but it doesn't see 98% of the metadata and artwork I encoded into my 2TB library so that would leave me with no metadata or artwork. I was really hoping this was going to be a simple solution for media management but it doesn't do any of the important things at all. Really disappointed.

Well, this is what the documentation says:
Local Media Assets gathers metadata from local file resources. For example:
- Metadata embedded in compatible files (such as MP4/M4V, MKV, MOV, etc.)
- Local Subtitle files on your Hard Drive
So if you are looking to use saved metadata in .nfos and thumbs it doesn't look like you're in luck. However it shouldn't take too long to download metadata for 2TB, depending on your internet speed of course.
Sadly…this does NOT work. I only select Personal Media (across the board) and I STILL get imported crap that I don’t want. I only want PLEX for its user interface and organization not its invasive metadata gathering. I feel ripped off after having paid for the lifetime plex plass that this software STILL forces me to important artwork I DON’T WANT. I am really irritated…why would classify this as a BUG. A BIG BUG! …irritated.
