I’m not sure if this is a plex “feature” as I don’t know if the option exists at all. I have my account and a couple of users (plex pass owners and managed) in my family that use it. I would like, however, to separate it on how they login. I’d like to be able to use my user/pw to for myself and set up a separate user/pw for them to login before they get to select their username and enter their pin.
It’s currently set up:
Go to plex
Enter User: xxxxxxx, Enter PW: xxxxxx
Click on User account and enter pin
Full access to server/libraries
I’m hoping to have it set up for myself and one for my users to access so that there are two separate user/pw.
Do you want to avoid to give out your master credentials to your managed users?
Or is the main concern the need to select a user and type in the PIN?
For 1)
You can make separate plex.tv accounts for all your users.
They will then use the username+password of their individual accounts to sign in their devices.
For users with mobile clients, but without their own servers or their own Plex Pass, you then have to invite them into your Plex Home (max 14 users).
For 2)
if the used client is not shared with other users (like a smart tv in the living room would be), you can activate ‘Automatic logon’ in the preferences of this client.
All official Plex clients have this option.
Once activated, the client will remember which Plex Home user is logged in and won’t require selecting a user and a PIN next time it is started.
For users which are using only web browsers to access your server: make sure that the web browser doesn’t delete cookies from the domains plex.tv and plex.direct.
That way the login to the plex account is retained even when the browser is closed. Which reduces drastically the amount of times when you or your users have to input the plex.tv credentials.
Sorry for the delay in getting back, I think the notification got lost in my spam. Yes, I want to have a master set of credential for logging in to my server and doing what I want with it but have a separate set of log in access to the plex app/site for managed users so there isn’t a cross over.
Can you advise on how to set up the separate plex credentials for managed users? I just want one login for me and one for managed users, I don’t need separate credentials for each and every user
If you only want one account for all your home users, you will need a separate Plex Pass on this account.
Setting this up is pretty straightforward:
Go to plex.tv (use the ‘private’ or ‘incognito’ mode of your web browser) Sign Up for a new plex.tv account (you will need a separate email address)
