Is music playback history preserved after Plex dance?

Some of my music doesn’t sound as loud as I think it should when I listen to it using wired headphones using PlexAmp. When I started my music library I had low res mp3 and m4a files because I didn’t know if Plex could play FLAC files (had seen a dashboard converting to AAC for a player…). Slowly I’ve been replacing those mp3s with FLAC files for my favorite albums and artists. Now some of those don’t sound as loud as I think they should be. I’ve trued re-analyzing but nothing seems to happen/change.

My question now is if I do the Plex dance on these albums/artists in order to re-analyze them for loudness will I lose my playback history? I have enabled watch state syncing but I’m not sure if that remembers my played music. The screen for that setting conspicuously makes no mention of music

The strange thing is that if I play the same music on my Laptop using the desktop Plex player, or if I connect my headphones to my controller and play the music from the Xbox it sounds louder. Just Plexamp on my phone seems to have softened these tracks and I play most of my music on my phone in Plexamp.

Are you combining tracks from different sources into a common album?
If you do, expect the loudness leveling to malfunction.

Loudness leveling is also the reason why Plexamp in general sounds a bit quieter. It needs the additional headroom to raise albums which are not as much maximised as others. (to prevent digital clipping)
It can’t be helped. (unless you disable loudness leveling in general – then you’d get the same loudness as from other Plex apps which have no support for loudness leveling.)

Not quite… To pick one example, I initially added Illmatic in a lower bitrate mp3. Already had the 44/16 Flac in OneDrive but didn’t know Plex could play FLAC. Later, I added the FLAC files thinking I’d get 2 versions of the album the way videos behave. That wasn’t the case since versions are only supported for videos so I removed the mp3 files. Rescanned and deleted the ghost entry. That preserved my play history but now I notice that the songs on this album aren’t as loud as they could be. I thought maybe it was using the loudness data from the mp3 files and if I took it out, got rid of the old data, then re-added and re-scanned/analyzed it might be improved.

No, that doesn’t happen.

If the flac version was all ripped from the same disc, it is as it should be.

But the second paragraph above still applies. It is expected for Plexamp to sound a bit softer. Otherwise loudness leveling cannot work (well).
