Is music scanning supposed to be so slow?

I just added a music library to my Plex setup, and it got to work scanning in my music collection. 15 minutes later, it has managed to add just three albums to my library. I have over 2,000 albums on disk; if they all take this long, it’s going to take over a week to scan them all - longer if I turn my computer off at night, as I usually do. Surely it’s not supposed to take this long?

It looks as if it’s scanning the artists in random order, as well, which seems a bit odd - I would have expected it to go alphabetically.

It is not supposed to be slow.

I can confirm music scanning is extremely slow currently, no idea why.

Newly added albums are taking forever to fetch metadata/won’t fetch and scanning is taking forever as well. Trying to fix the match will also result in an infinite spinning circle and no search results found.

The problem seems to be with the “Plex Music” agent. If I change the agent to “Personal Media Artists” (which also changes the scanner from “Plex Music” to “Plex Music Scanner”), the scan goes much faster, more at the speed I would expect - but then I don’t get any additional metadata from the internet (e.g. artist pics and bios) - only what is included in the file tags. The “Last.fm” agent is also much faster, and downloads additional metadata - but if I select that, PMS keeps bugging me to upgrade the library, telling me that “There is a newer, faster, and more accurate agent available for this type of media.” Newer, certainly. More accurate, maybe. Faster - very definitely not.

Suffering same thing here. Plex Music new scanner “Plex Music” (not “Plex Music scanner”) is extremely slow even when I selected “prefer local metadata” option.

Same here. Plex Music agent is EXTREMELY slow on Debian. I have a music collection of round about 140000 titles, all organized by Genre/Album Artists/Year/Album for non-classical stuff and Genre/Composer/Work/Artist for the classical stuff. I have set-up the agent to prefer metadata. It takes about 12 hours to scan the first 35 classical albums.

Note: I had set up my library some monthes ago, and the speed was slow, but the library was scanned in about two days. Now I have completely reorganized my folder hierarchy, removed the old library, cleansed the database and reinitiated the scan. With that speed, scanning will take rather months…
