Is play count tied to album/track number?

Server Version#: 1.16.2.1321

So I (mostly) don’t care about albums and track numbers. My audio collection just isn’t organized that way. That means that a lot of files end up in the [Unknown Album] as track #0. Which is perfectly fine. But when I tried to make a smart playlist of unplayed files (based on the play counts), I noticed that when I played any one of those track #0 files, the play count of all of them increased. That means quite a lot of things that ought to be on my unplayed playlist aren’t.

I mostly want to confirm that Plex is working the way I think it is and ask if anyone has ideas as to workarounds.

Doing a little more digging in the XML… I noticed the Track tag has a guid attribute… for two tracks that have the same (nonexistent) track number, the guids are the same:

guid="com.plexapp.agents.none://22624/-1?lang=xn"

but for a track in the same album which does have a track number, this is different:

guid="com.plexapp.agents.none://22624/5?lang=xn"

How and where are these guids assigned, and is it possible to customize them e.g. using a custom agent?
