I have noticed that the Track Count for all Tracks within an Album are the same number. When I look at the play history for each Track, they all have the same dates and times (which is impossible). When I look at the play history for the Album, it shows the individual tracks played at these times, but confirms that all tracks were not played at the same time.
So I am deducing that when I play a track on the album, all tracks for that album get a play increment.
The album metrics are correct. The track metrics are not.
This became noticeable when I updated to version 1.21.1.3876 on January 22, 2021. I do not recall what version I had prior to that (but it had been a while since the previous update). I am running on a Synology NAS DS218j, and use multiple players (Roku, Sonos, Chrome browser and Alexa).
Also, to make this even more confusing, this does not seem to have happened since that update date. So, it looks like it ran some calculations against historical data and applied it to all tracks.
Any ideas what happened or how to clean it up. I would love a way to have Plex rescan the library and update the counts.
Ok. so I just saw it happen right in front of me. I noticed that all tracks for the same album had 30 plays. I switch to album view and the album had 34 plays, which as I understand it is supposed to be the number of times any track within the album plays.
So, I clicked on the “…” for one of the tracks, and clicked Play Next. Once the track completed, all tracks in the album showed 31 plays. Switching to album view shows the album now has 35 plays.
This happened using the Chrome Browser, but I think it is happening with other players.
It does not happen for all albums, so I am trying to find a pattern.
This is terribly annoying since I have a smart playlist that filters songs that have Track Last Played over 20 days, and now whenever one track plays it prevents the other tracks from ever getting playtime.
Does anyone know what to look for to provide better diagnostics? I’m computer geek, so I’m willing to mine through logs, etc.
This problem appears to have been caused by not having the proper track numbers. I had a bunch that had Zero for a track number and all tracks within the album were somehow treated as the same if they had the same track number.
I’ve been going through my library and fixing the track numbers when I see this, and it seems to be clearing things up.
