Is Plex filesharing?

Hi, some days ago I stumbled upon Plex and set it up on my BananaPI. I mounted a USB-drive with several movies on it. I want to use my BananaPI as a local media server but now I’m not sure whether I share my files with other users. In the server settings, I checked that it is only accessible from my local network. Is the server performing filesharing or is it just streaming the movies/files to my local devices on demand? As filesharing is illegal in my country (Germany) this is a really important question for me.

Kindly regards,
okaay

Plex is not file sharing. You have a media repository that you run in your house, providing media to clients in your house. Besides that, external users can’t download your media for themselves - if you ever turned on remote access so a friend could watch your movies, they couldn’t save a copy locally.

First of all, thank you for your quick response!
So it’s like a direct connection from my clients to the “server” with the files on it, just streaming, right?

I recommend you go through the FAQ and support documents, lots of great info there.

‘Filesharing’ is illegal on Planet Earth for the most part, but in some locations they don’t list it up there with Murder, Mayhem and Armed Robbery. That said, @kegobeer-plex is correct and it’s just streaming. No armed danger to a society or anything.
