Is Plex having DNS issues?

Hello there. I’ve been using Plex for years, and must admit that it’s been great most of the time!
Today, I worked on updating my Plex Media Server, as the Android app was requesting me to.

I had troubles getting everything working again, and it took me fairly long to inspect what in my setup could had failed (I tried downgrading, checking the logs, restarting, etc.).

In the end, I think I realized you guys may have DNS propagation issues.

See, my router (and hence all my devices in my home network) was set up to use the OpenDNS DNS servers (208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220). I noticed that when trying to reach plex.tv in my browser, I had troubles getting there, and sometimes having an SSL certificate error, and even sometimes getting a completely different website (matching that SSL’s owner): http://contrakto.it

After switching my laptop to use 1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare’s DNS initiative) as DNS, the issues described above would vanish, so next, I set my router to use 1.1.1.1 instead of the OpenDNS IPs. Then my Plex Media Server came back and started working again as it used to before!

You guys might want to check what’s going on with your provider, or your DNS setup.

I use openDNS as well set up in my router and don’t have any issues.

I just found this very recent topic that seems to describe a similar issue, now solved by changing DNS.
