not sure why, but everyone i register to enjoy my PLEX server is being told they are limited and are being forced to pay for a subscription… why is this? i thought plex was free(?)
Plex is free, but some players have a small fee, mostly due to the app store they resides on
Plex mobile apps have a one minute timeout for video playback.
The timeout is removed for Plex Pass holders or users who are part of a Plex Home administered by a Plex Pass holder.
For other users, there is a one-time activation fee, ~$5 USD, to remove the timeout. The activation fee is based on the app store account and is non-transferrable. For example, if you have two iPhones using the same app store account, the cost is $5 USD. If you add an Android phone that is another $5 USD as the purchase is via Google, not Apple.
