TMDB recently launched a new feature supporting the translation of actor names and biographies, meaning that actor information can now be translated into various languages. Plex has traditionally only supported displaying actor names, information, and credit pages in English. Now that TMDB supports translation, Plex should be able to access translated data in various languages now. Can Plex now retrieve corresponding language data based on the user’s language settings?

It seems that Plex currently does not support fetching translated actor/cast names and credit data from TMDB. Is there a plan to support translated versions of actor/cast information?

Given this update, it would indeed be beneficial for Plex to support retrieving actor information in various languages based on the user’s language settings. Plex should ideally be able to access and display this translated data from TMDB, enhancing the user experience for non-English speakers.
Is this feature already implemented in Plex, or is it something that’s being planned? If not yet implemented, it would be a valuable addition to consider for future updates.
Out of curiosity how does a name get translated. Just phonetic?
For Chinese, foreign names can be translated into Chinese using either phonetic transcription or meaning-based translation, with most using phonetic transcription. This involves using Chinese characters that sound similar to the original name, for example, ‘Taylor Swift’ is translated as ‘泰勒·斯威夫特’ based on the similarity in pronunciation.
On the other hand, Chinese names are generally translated into English using the pinyin system, which romanizes Chinese characters. For example, ‘周迅’ is translated as ‘Zhou Xun.’
I have tested the old The Movie Database agent and it already supports retrieving translated versions of actor and cast names. Please add this feature to the new agent as soon as possible. Thank you.

I strongly hope that Plex can support displaying actor names in Chinese as well. Since TMDB now offers multilingual translations of actor information, Plex should be able to display data in the user’s preferred language based on their settings. This would greatly enhance the experience for non-English users, especially Chinese-speaking viewers. I hope the official team can implement this feature soon.
