Support for translated versions of actor/cast names and biographies

Since TMDB now supports translation features for actor/cast names and biographies, Plex should have a way to retrieve the translated versions of names and biographies based on the user’s language settings. If translated data exists, it should be fetched; otherwise, it could default to English. We hope that Plex can add multilingual support for actor/cast information, including filmography titles in the credit page.

I just found out that the old The Movie Database agent supports translated versions of actor names, but the latest Plex agent does not? Please add support for this feature in the new agent!

Additionally, suggest displaying country names according to the user’s language settings, instead of using English country names.

Althought I do want this feature as well, it’s more of a TMDb thing, which is already on their to-do list: Trello and Trello.

No, that’s not the case. You can go and check TMDB; the functionality of translating people’s names has already been launched. TMDB now supports the translation of people’s names, and using The Movie Database agent in Plex can already retrieve translated versions of cast names. However, the new version of the Plex agent does not support this feature, so it’s not an issue with TMDB but rather a problem with Plex’s new agent.

In TMDB, the translation of actors’ names and biographies is already supported, but indeed, the translation of character names is not yet supported.

The server has been upgraded to 1.40.4.8679, but the Plex agent still does not support the translation of actor names. The Movie Database agent has supported this feature for a while now. I don’t understand why this feature hasn’t been added to the new agent.

It is really urgent to display the names of cast members according to the region.

I hope the authorities can hear the voices of the users.

Was there ever a reason given for this glaring oversight?

Stop focusing Plex’s updates on streaming content from other providers and focus on fixing obvious mistakes.

Couldn’t agree more.

I believe many people need this feature.

I think, it will be simple, but great future

The same situation applies to the music library as well. Currently, the preferred language for returned data in the music library also seems to be English. If English data exists in MusicBrainz or other data sources, it appears that English is prioritized during matching in Plex. For example, an artist’s name is displayed in English regardless of whether it exists in other languages, even if the name appears in the user’s language during the search, it still shows in English after matching. The same issue occurs with descriptions. This is quite unfriendly to non-English users. Additionally, for Chinese, the data source may contain both Simplified and Traditional Chinese data, and currently, there is no way to set a priority based on the user’s language settings. It is hoped that the language of music metadata can also be prioritized based on the user’s library language.

It seems that the officials have not paid attention, which is disappointing.

Is anyone really surprised? There legit is zero interest in fixing issues with the product when they can shove more features for playback of their own content. It’s why I’m running multiple other products alongside Plex as I suspect somewhere along the way something is going to break when it comes to self hosting and it will take forever to fix as that has become less and less of a priority.
