Is plex pass lifetime membership worth the money?

Is plex pass lifetime membership worth the money?

Every penny. No, I am not affiliated with Plex, I am just a long time, very happy user.

That depends on the value you place on the features/advantages the Plex Pass gives you.

The features, advantages and any other perks you might receive from a Plex Pass subscription (lifetime or otherwise) is really meaningless as far as the value of a Plex Pass. The best reason to buy a Plex Pass is to support Plex.

I disagree with a number of choices Plex has made lately BUT Plex is still by far the best media manager for any situation where client/server makes sense and they should be supported.

Also, even thought it really is not the case, it feels like Plex Pass gives one a bit more right to ■■■■■ and that feeling is important to me even though it sometimes feels like it really is the right to be ignored.

I bought lift time since i saw no point of paying x usd every month or year apposed to paying a higher price one off, since i knew i would be using plex for along time.

Plex Pass is a mixed blessing, IMO.

We get some of the new features before they get moved to stable, but that means we get to play Beta Testers for the Plex Team.

Our input is sought out with regards to the beta testing we do, but the suggestions we offer aren’t always followed.

We get the only Feature Request section of the forums. And with this forum we get the right to vote for those features offering our input as to which of them we consider, collective, of higher value or need. But the features we most request through our votes aren’t as high on the priority lists as things already on some unpublished (to us) Road Map™. Things that aren’t requested have a higher priority than those that are requested and have extremely high vote counts. In some cases features we have requested can sit on the forums for 2 or 3 years before we get a glimmer they might be coming.

We get to install Beta only Client Apps, and after we help to get something that works fairly well, it’s given to the general users for free.

We get Sync to mobile clients, but not to desktop clients. And those mobile clients can have scores of issues that may or may not be resolved timely.

We have opted in to financially support Plex and the development Team, but the technical support many desire from the Team usually falls to individuals on the forums, and seldom from Team members. (There is no dedicated support structure other than these forums.) (Read that as WE are the support structure!)

We get added features, such as trailers (but only from movies) and then the trailers can still require internet activity instead of pulling form the local disk for those extras.

We get some nice premium music features with the premium music library, but those features only work in certain geographical areas.

As I said, Plex Pass is a mixed blessing. There are some very key features we are missing, and honestly, had I known we wouldn’t have those features 2+ years after paying for my Lifetime Pass, I probably wouldn’t have gotten it.

I am a paid member, I pledged a lifetime membership. Why? I am a programmer and I had been working on a “movie database” that warehoused all my movies that I’ve collected throughout the years. I had them all moved to my new NAS (WD DL4400). I created a database that lived on my server and data-mined all the information on all of my titles as an automated function that worked dynamically if the information fields were blank; but it was just a movie database like a personal IMDB; my fancy search and display list with all kinds of query functionality, but no movie play-ability. So when I found out about Plex I was so impressed I decided to pay them for my happiness. BUT I wish or hope that Plex decides to add real “tech support” in lieu of forum chatter.

Oh Gosh yes. We purchased lifetime when it was still $74 and not a day has gone by where we did not congratulate ourselves. Plex rules our life, media wise, we would gladly have paid the $150 as well. We don’t even use many of the pass only features, although I did sync a few movies with my tablet when I was travelling recently.

I bought it just because I wanted to support Plex. I think it’s such a wonderful product and wanted to do my part with helping it evolve. I personally really do like the Plex Pass features though. It’s really nice having all of the power of Plex. I’m also excited to see what the future of Plex Pass holds. It might be very valuable in the future to have already bought the Lifetime Pass, especially if they do stop selling them and only do monthly/annually. I think it’s up to you to decide if it’s worth it, but I personally think it is.

I responded to a similar question some time back. Rather than repeating, I’ll link it.

dead on

If you intend on using Plex long term, then absolutely. If you’re paying monthly forever, then at some point you’ll end up paying more than the lifetime price.

If you’re not sure, do monthly for a month or two, then once you decide if you’re going to stick with Plex long term, go with the lifetime. It’s a chunk of money up front, but you’ll be done paying.

I paid yearly and in my opinion, lifetimes is not worth it, at least not now, considering the weird design and possible privacy choices Plex made lately. Just remember: competition is gaining ground fast and in some ways, even surpassed Plex.

i bought my Roku and used Plex on it for about 20 minutes and immediately bought a lifetime pass and never regretted it for even a minute if your going to use Plex for any length of time I would highly recommend it

@“razvan.constantin” what privacy choices?
