Well, title basically says it all. If it comes for external receivers, TVs, android devices, anything that plays video apart from PC, plex for kodi basically beats native plex clients hands down. Especially on android TV. I had a tons of problems on my Sony XF90. DTS passtrough not recognized, PGS subtitles not working, random transcodings (which for 4K HDR basically is useless). However with Plex client on Kodi everything just works. Kodi automatically recognized my DTS enabled sound receiver, PSG subtitles (and everything else) just work, direct play works, I’m yet to find one single thing which requires transcoding.
I made the same experience. Furthermore, I switched over to PlexKodiConnecr (PKC) which allows me to enjoy the Kodi UI. I also got a feedback from a Plex Guy who also had to admit that Kodi is the most sophisticated player out there.
Kodi is a great player for sure from a technical standpoint. However, the reason you mention here is exactly what I do NOT like about Kodi! LOL
It is way to complicated. I could get it to work, but never really understood how libraries worked in Kodi. I wanted to use it (LibraElec) to play 3D-MVC and although I could basically get it to work it was always making me tinker with something…and I could usually never figure out where to go to tinker to fix it…
I know you can change it, but I think the default UI is hideous. I think Plex has it beat hands down. I’m sure it’s also partly because I’ve been using Plex for a long time now, but Plex just seems way more intuitive to me. More like a polished machine than an old clunker with a powerful engine.
YMMV. Everyone has preferences of course and I’m not saying that one or the other is better. Just that I prefer Plex for exactly the same reason you prefer Kodi. It is also exactly why I’m looking to try Plex FOR Kodi add on so I can maybe get the best of both worlds!
