My server has been crashing multiple times a day for over a year now. I’ve attempted to make posts about it on these forums, but people only suggest changing my windows power settings.
Is there a place where I can upload my server logs, so that someone from Plex can look at them and tell me why my server crashes after 30-40 minutes?
This is the one and only place.
I had a look into your logs (I am just a user also) I didn’t spot anything specific. Your server seems to quit when trying to find lyrics for some “unknown” files like “DistortedFMSnare002”.
First thing I noticed is you are running an ultra-old version of Plex Media Server, namely 1.14.1.5488 from last year. As a first measure I would update to the current version 1.18.1.1973-0f4abfbcc.
If the problem persists, come back and I might ping some guys from Plex so they notice your thread.
Weird. Plex has been updating normally for a while now. I get updates bi-weekly it seems.
I’ll give it a full re-install.
EDIT: Reinstalled. I’m going to toss on a movie and see what happens. And, thank you for looking at the logs. I never would have noticed that I was out of date.
Sure thing, let me/us know if things work more consistently now.
It appears the problem is persisting.
Here’s my most recent log file:

On a side note, DistortedFMSnare002 is on an entirely separate hard drive, that Plex does not scan. That file may have been there before I moved everything over to my new 6tb a few days ago (in an attempt to fix the crashing issue) but is not longer in “my” plex music library.
EDIT: Metadata refreshed, and trash emptied for my Music library.
It’s still crashing as frequently as before unfortunately.
Here are my logs if you don’t mind having a quick look.

I don’t know if this is the cause, but again the last action is related to lyricfind.
Go to settings -> agents -> albums -> last.fm and disable lyricsfind there.
Just a guess, maybe @sa2000 or @anon18523487 can help you further.
Edit: Indeed in com.plexapp.agents.lyricfind.log it shows a critical core error, seems as this is really your crash source.
Awesome! I have a good feeling about this.
Server re-booted. Waiting to see what happens.
Will update.
EDIT: It crashed again, but only because LyricFind turned itself back on. I’m triple checking that it’s off this time.
Naw, still happening.

Thank you btw. You’ve given me the most help I’ve ever got with this issue.
Did you change something? Your earlier logs reported you were running Windows 6.2 (Windows 8), but your new log says Windows 10.
No, I just re installed a fresh copy of the server. Apparently I had been running an older version, despite still getting updates regularly.
I don’t think I’ve had Plex longer than I’ve had Windows 10.
Well, I’m totally confused. Your logs showed your computer was running Windows 8.0. Did you upgrade to Windows 10 from 8.0 when this started. I remember old reports of PMS crashing due to a updating to Windows 10. The fix was a full uninstall and reinstall of PMS.
I think I know what the problem is.
The way I installed Windows 10 is by using my physical Windows 8.1 disc, and doing the free upgrade to Windows 10.
I don’t believe I had Plex installed before doing this, as I did a full re-format of my C: drive in an attempt to fix this crashing issue, and didn’t install Plex until after I upgraded to 10.
EDIT: Is there more to a full uninstall than just going though control panel?
Was this in the past 14 hours? Your logs from then had you using Windows 8.0.
No no, it was years ago.
I have no idea why the logs are showing that, unless you’re looking at my post from a year ago… but even then it would have been Windows 10.
EDIT: I’ve been on Windows 10 build 1903 since 7/19/2019
Nevermind. I was looking at your scanner log which shows 8.0, but your server log shows 10.0. Guess we have a bug for that.
Now that I’m straightened out on that, let look into the actual crash.
In the latest log, it showed the scanner trying to read a file and running into issues. I don’t know if it’s enough to cause a crash, but I would check this file.
Nov 12, 2019 11:58:49.319 [5720] DEBUG - [FFMPEG] - Opening ‘D:\Downloads\Parks and Recreation S01-07 web hevc-d3g\Parks S01\Parks.and.Recreation.S01E06.Rock.Show.WEBRip.1080p.DD5.1.H265-d3g.mkv’ for reading
That’s a file that I’m currently downloading, it’s 42.6% complete at the moment. It’s part of a 7 season, 73gb folder.
Ah. It’s not a good idea to use your downloading folder for your Plex libraries. This could be the cause of your crashes. PMS and the download trying to access the same file at the same time while it’s downloading. Don’t do this and your crashes will likely go away.
Ok, I’ll try using uTorrents “Append .!ut to incomplete files” feature, so Plex will ignore them.
I’ll report back if the crashes have stopped.
Thank you! I didn’t realize this could crash the server.
