Is there a feature/way to ignore music based on profile?

As a family who uses Plex, I did the ‘dad thing’ and dumped everyone’s CD’s to the plex server… but sometimes music comes up that my wife or daughter likes that I would prefer to have never dumped… but to be fair to everyone (this isn’t MY server, it’s OURS)… it stays. However, No matter how I rate music (no rating/0 stars, half a star, etc), I still get a lot of … um… ‘crap’ in my audio feed when I pick something ‘decade’ or various genres. Is there a feature I’m unaware of that could filter out things I don’t want to listen to (and the same for them, as they don’t like my taste in music either… A per-account/user ignore list would be BEST ANSWER, but I have never seen anything like that in the PlexAmp configs, even though I search it with every new release.

Am I missing something? Is there a way to do this that I’m just not seeing? If not, could something like this be implemented… Either a swipe-left so I never hear it again or rate it -1 stars or something to ignore… Anything that fixes my audio feed without impacting theirs is my goal.

Rating a track < 3 stars will ensure it won’t show up in many radios, and will be biased against in other places.

Having the same dad problem here. I’ve noticed tracks that have a star with a slash show up in my mixes pretty frequently. My family logs into the computer and by default my profile is auto logged. They listen there cause I have “the nice speakers” and then things get re rated and show up in my mix. Kids and wife can’t be bothered to log into their user accounts. It’s a mess, it’s chaos, it’s family life.. They also use the app on phone and tablet.

Anyway, I digress, what I’ve tried which is taking some time to do. But solves my users not switching to their profiles issue. I have created a folder structure based on who’s music it is. And then created libraries and pointed those libraries to the folder.

All my CDs are in Dad folder. My wife’s are in a different folder. Etc…

I have a family library that points at all the folders. This is the default library on all the devices.

When I want just my music without the Disney and wife’s library. I simply switch to my library and listen worry free cause the folder it points to is just my music.

It takes more time to setup but it’s worth it for me. It’s faster than using labels or tags.

What exactly are you playing (playlist, radio, etc.) and do you have Smart Shuffle enabled?

Creating separate libraries for each user is a nice way to get around the issue…

For my usage, I generally use the Decade Radio… I hadn’t seen ‘Smart Shuffle’ as an option. Maybe I need to dig for that…

But even when I mark things as lower stars, they still show up. Maybe the Smart Shuffle will fix that?

I had considered separate libraries for each user, but OMG… :frowning: That’s gonna be a lot of work to break it back apart. Feels like going through a divorce.

Library Radio, Genre/Style Radio, Artist Radio. Pretty much all of the Radios. I haven’t paid attention to playlists Ill have to keep an eye out.

And smart shuffle is always on.

I have noticed that if I set to rating with all five stars, one star songs do not show up in library radio. But as soon as I changed to the one star rating approach I began to see more songs that were star slash songs show up.

LOLOL Yes. It was a huge undertaking. :grinning: . The way I did it, was I used, MusicBrainz Picard. It lets you use a script to file name and the script lets you move stuff into folders. So what I did to make things easy on myself is. I made sure that iTunes was not going to organize the folders. So I turned all of that off. I then went through our family music library in iTunes and in the -Comment- block I wrote down “Wife’s Music”, “Kids Music” etc…

I then opened all the files in MusicBrainz Picard, set up a script that was triggered by the -Comment- block. Whenever the comment “Wife’s Music” was found it would move those tracks into a separate folder and so on. And since these were tags built into the file, I know that no matter what happens with versions of server software or client software I can move stuff around to keep the libraries ordered.

This is a lot of work for music. But for me worth it. Music is life!! I used iTunes and Picard cause they are free and I know how to use them. :grinning:

I also use 1 star ratings and often hear songs that I have rated with a slashed through star.

It just happened again. I had started playing an artist from my library a day or two ago. I have closed and re-opened the app at least once and just hit play again when I reopened it to pick up where it left off.

Unless I specifically try to play a disliked song, I expect to never hear it again after I have given it a “thumbs down” (which is how I interpret the star with a slash through it). I’m not sure if I’m encountering a bug, or if the designed functionality just doesn’t meet my expectations.

That isn’t how ratings work. If you play an album with low-rated tracks, they’ll still play.

You can construct smart playlists which leave out low-rated tracks entirely.
