Filter favourite music artists/albums

Hi,

Does anyone know if there’s a way to filter favourite music? So like if I could mark a load of artists or individual albums as favourites and then set a filter to only show favourites?

At the moment I’ve started creating playlists. So every album I want I’ve created a playlist for just that album and called it the artist and album name. Then I just go to playlists and it shows all my music.

It works as I don’t use playlists for anything else so it will only show my music. It’s just damn time consuming.

If this isn’t yet possible I’ll request it in the request forum.

Thanks.

You can make a “smart” playlist with your favorite tracks.
For this to work, you “rate” particular tracks by applying ‘stars’ to them.
Then you go into your music library in Plex Web, switch the view mode to ‘Tracks’.

Then call up the left hand action bar and pick ‘New Filter’ - ‘Rating’ - click the ‘4 stars’ and ‘5 stars’ rating.
then click on the left side on ‘Add to Playlist’ name it ‘Favorite Music’ or something

Now every time you add a rating of 4 or 5 stars to any music track, it gets automatically included in the playlist. (This is the “smart” part of the smart playlist.)

You can call up the playlist on any of your Plex clients and play it ‘shuffled’.

You can add star ratings to individual tracks. Anywhere you can see the list of tracks, you can edit the track and add a star rating.
Then, (in Plex Web) set the View mode to Tracks. ‘Rating’ now appears in the Filters and Sorting options.

You could make a Smart playlist. Just select the Rating filter you want, then click the Add to Playlist button. Give the playlist a name, and it will create a Smart playlist (indicated by a ‘gear’ icon). Now, any time you mark a track with a star rating that matches the filter, it will automatically appear on the playlist.

No, I saw the thread earlier

Cheers guys. That would work but it wouldn’t group the tracks in albums would it? It would just give me one massive play list of all the music I have rated. Ideally I’d have each album as an individual playlist.

So do you want to browse through your artists/albums normally, but only see the ones you’ve marked as favorites? If so, then no, Plex doesn’t have any way to do that.

Yes that’s what I was after. Reason being the music library is huge to cater for all the users but obviously we don’t all have the same tastes so would have been nice to have been able to filter out what I don’t want to see.

You might be able to figure something out with a managed user and the Labels feature, but that’s not an intended use, so it would be a hack at best, and probably not quite what you want anyway.

Unfortunately the ‘stars’ can only be applied to tracks, not to albums or artists.

Actually, you can apply stars to albums as well, but, oddly, there’s no ‘rating’ filter at the album level - only sorting.

You are right. That’s what I actually meant.

Thanks for the comments guys.

At the moment I’ve set up each album as a separate playlist which essentially does exactly what I want. Its not perfect as there’s no sync option in the playlist screen that I could see but that’s not a problem and theres no shuffle or anything like that but otherwise it’s spot on. Was just time consuming initially to set up but from now on it’ll just be the odd album I add so it’ll do for me
