Is there a Plex update for Thecus? 1.23.2.4656

Hello! I’ve been happily using Plex server version 1.14.1.5488 and Plex app version 8.7.2.20952 (on my phone) since Plex stopped supporting Thecus a couple years ago. I know at the time there were several long threads on this topic related to issues with Thecus not updating their libraries. I picked the last supported versions and stuck with them. Since that time I know Thecus has basically pulled out of the US market, shut down their support forums, and their website isn’t even loading right now.

So today I happened to log into my Plex console and got a notification that “A Plex Media Server update is available for the server N5550! 1.23.2.4656 Download now” is available.

I can’t find anything about this online. Can anyone confirm did Plex actually release a new version that works with Thecus hardware? Would be great if they did but I’m not holding my breath. Also don’t want to break my currently good-working setup. I notice the file “PlexMediaServer-1.23.2.4656-85f0adf5b-x64.mod” is different than the previous “PlexMediaServer_1.14.1.5488-cc260c476_x64.app” (different extension). Not sure if this is even meant for Thecus or is something else going on here?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Yes. I’m told the new compiler toolchain which was deployed at Plex recently makes it now again possible to deliver compatible PMS releases to the Thecus app store.

Hi @Mike-Smith-442 you should be able to install the .mod (Module package) on your Thecus and it will upgrade your 1.14.1 PMS to 1.23.2

This is now possible as our new toolchain (introduced with PMS 1.23.0) no longer relies on system GLIBC

Hi! Thank you both for the help. I was a bit hesitant to do the update considering my current config was working well, but I uploaded the new .mod file to my Thecus, it saw the existing Plex installation and performed an upgrade to it, and after a few (admittedly nail-biting) minutes, I had a fully updated Plex system working on my old Thecus.

There were a few additional maintenance tasks I had to perform, such as update my libraries from “legacy” mode, but I’ve been doing a bit of testing and everything seems to be working well. Guess this update breathes a little more life into my old Thecus NAS. Thanks, Plex! :relaxed::+1::+1:
