So, Plex, you stopped building for Thecus because supposedly you need them to update firmware. I seriously doubt they are updating any time soon. They ditched their own support forum several months ago. Literally deleted it including all topics from their corporate site. No explanation, no response to multiple users asking to explain. But I digress…so Plex requires me to update my Thecus NAS to Plex 1.16.1. I have a Lifetime Plex Pass, been a user for years. Got it primarily for Live TV and DVR which is not perfect but more than less usable. Can you offer any useful thoughts?
Part of what I wan to understand is what’s the problem with Thecus firmware that prevents Plex from continuing support? I looked for PMS Release Notes with info. Please point me to the information if I’ve missed it
@OttoKerner thanks for the update and detail. My opinion, although supported by their actions, that Thecus doesn’t care. Per my original post they shutdown and deleted their own corporate support forum without notice or explanation and failed to respond to numerous requests for information. After I started this thread I contacted them to ask about a firmware update but the response was only one telling me the age of my machine (as if I didn’t know) and directed to buy a newer one. They clearly demonstrate their stupidity since I was clear in my question about firmware so a newer machine with the same firmware would be useless.
@sa2000 can you give details on the issue with Thecus’ firmware related to Plex updates? Other media servers are still issuing updates so looking to understand the obstacle for Plex, especially now that Live TV is negatively affected.
@sa2000 - it’s been a couple of weeks, what can you tell me about the issue with Thecus’ firmware relative to Plex’s ability to update PMS? From a couple of emails I’ve exchanged on an open ticket with Thecus I gather it has something to do with DLNA but I’m not entirely certain given their poor command of clear English.
I too have a Thecus NAS… a very large array and now I’m finding out that there is no new PLEX distribution (mine is really old 1.7.5… and I want to use some of the new features) for my THECUS (N16000 with outboard storage chassis). I’m very disappointed with this. Let me know what you intend on doing to remedy this.
Never under-estimate the power of social media in resolving problems.
@sa2000, or anyone that cares and has information - what’s the detailed answer as to why Plex no longer plays with Thecus? And why it’s in Thecus’ court to fix the issue?
A month and a half seems a long time for me to wait for a response form Plex on this.
The TLDR answer to this is that Plex requires newer libraries than what ThecusOS currently has. Thecus “seems” to have no interest in providing a ThecusOS update containing the newer libraries.
I’m in the same boat- I have a N7770-10G that works great for storage, has Plex on it as a backup to my primary server, and is stuck like yours at the last released compatible version.
If this persists, in the end, Thecus will suffer from not acting. I would hesitate to purchase another one of their servers if they are unwilling to keep the operating systems current… such that applications like PLEX can be used as they are updated. I let them know my point of view, and I’m sure they are aware of the power of social media that this issue shines light upon.
