I’m on the latest version of the server and am using the desktop version.
Is there a way to download an entire playlist on desktop rather than downloading each track. I am not talking about sync or any of the apps. When you have a playlist on the desktop player you can click on the three vertical dots and select “download file” as shown in the image below.
Is there a way to do this for an entire playlist instead of each file individually? Please don’t recommend PlexAmp or Sync on Plex app, these are useless. I want to download each file on a playlist so that I can store them locally on my phone for playback. Plex doesn’t allow us to sort playlists so I can’t even sort by artist and copy the files manually.
Nope. There is no other solution other than the individual download. It’s because Plex is sandboxed to use their own file directory structure which doesn’t even keep the original files intact when syncing via the apps. The web app via Plex.tv and local host is the only way to download the original files. Plex has a sandboxed folder structure in their apps and is relatable to how Spotify’s download folder structure is. On the absurd side since Plex is with non-d.r.m files. This has always been an issue since forever. The sync function works just fine in PlexAmp if you’re willing to go that route BUT again, no third party apps like VLC will have easy access or can scan local music in the Plex directory. There is no 1click download all tracks button in original format either. Everything you’re asking above doesn’t exist.
I take it you are not hosting the data? If you are, why not just use smb or nfs. Otherwise, I don’t think plex endorses pirating even though they look the other way. Copying your friends media vs streaming is pirating.
“Download File” ONLY appears if he or she is an admin to a server so I can only assume @Cadern does in-fact have access to a server as an admin. Managed users or Plex Friends only can Sync via the Plex apps and have no access to original files. Plus, piracy isn’t the issue here. It’s how Plex doesn’t allow third party apps like Media monkey or VLC to access our own downloaded media on the same device.
That option does not appear for me, “download” is replaced with “sync”, both on my desktop player and on the actual server UI.
I spent all of the past year ripping all my CDs and Vinyl, which I am legally allowed to do. In no way am I pirating, getting rather sick of the condescending attitude on this forum.
Which app exactly are you using? When i say desktop player I am talking about Plex for Mac or Windows. (there is no Linux version) Plex Media Player won’t have the option.
Downloaded the app rather than using the web player and this seems to work, though it does download each file to a separate folder but easier than having to download each track individually. Thank you, exactly what I was looking for.
