Is there a way to limit remote playback resolution?

  1. I have several friends that remotely stream our PLEX content.

  2. There are a lot of movies for which I have both HD (1080p or 720p) and 4K (2160p HDR) versions.

  3. Now that PLEX can not only down-scale 4K to HD but also tone-map HDR to SDR I was hoping to get rid of some of the 1080p files.

  4. Neither we nor our friends have the bandwidth to stream 4K video, or even high-bitrate 1080p.
    so…

  5. Is there a way to cap or limit remote playback resolutions?

There’s a setting under Quality where I can set the remote playback quality but this seems to do NOTHING. Our friends can still override this settings, or it doesn’t default to that resolution at all on their end.

I was hoping to NOT have to segregate 4K movies into their own library.

Thoughts?

Settings - Server - Remote Access
You can set the upper limit of bandwidth which all remote clients together shall not exceed.

As well as a limit which an individual client shall not exceed.
