Is there an easy way to tell what files media scan add/removes?

So I went through all my duplicates and found one more that absolutely made no sense as to why it grouped the two together.

America Has Fallen (2016)
London Has Fallen (2016)

So I looked on imdb and it said America Has Fallen was also called “Rising Fear (2016)”. I changed the file name and now Plex doesn’t see it at all…

I’ve seen minor mistakes in “updates” in my two years in using Plex but I think this might be the granddaddy of them all!

What hasn’t been brought up in here: Do you have the Local Media Assets agent in the top most position? Don’t. Bad embedded metadata can also influence proper matching.

Go to Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheTVDB
In there, grab the line ‘Local Media Assets’ with your mouse and drag it downwards, so it ends up being at the bottom of the stack of active agents.
Repeat the same under
Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheMovieDatabase
+
Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie

Whenever that happens, create a subfolder for each movie.
Then Plex Dance them both. Only add them back one at a time.

Did you just rename the file or do the whole dance? Maybe it get merged into another movie. And what is the new filename?

Although the same movie, these have two separate entries on themoviedb.

America Has Fallen (2016)
https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/476305-america-has-fallen

Rising Fear (2016)

Because of this PLEX may have listed under America Has Fallen instead of Rising Fear.

I also don’t think you’ve mentioned what the default agent you are using is.

Edit - I didn’t mean default. I meant, what agent do you have selected for that library?

Rising Fear (2017) — The Movie Database (TMDB)

Lol! I’m not using TMDB anymore. See earlier post in this thread. IMDB is the end all be all for Plex!

I never have changed those settings. All default. Up until a few days ago it’s worked perfectly fine!

I just renamed the file and didn’t do any dancing. It’s a completely new file name! Wouldn’t PMS just see it as I deleted one file and added another?

Just so you’re tagged, all settings are default. I’ve never had a reason to even look at that screen because it’s always worked perfect!

I am explicitly recommending you to deviate from the default.
If you have mp4 / m4v files, you should do so.

All of my movies are mkv without embedded metadata. I have some other miscellaneous stuff that’s mp4 / m4v with metadata.

As soon as I get home I’ll adjust the settings and see what happens.

I don’t believe that is how it works. Plex stores a digital signature of the file so Plex will only see a changed file, not a new one.

This time when I scanned it created two separate “London Has Fallen”. So I found the one that was wrong and manually forced it to use TMDB. It’s now correct.
