Is there an official archive of older versions?

I need to download version 1.19.0.1399-31d8c803 of Plex for Windows. I thought the installer would be stored locally, but only the empty folders are. Swapping the version number in the link that points to the latest version didn’t work.

If there is no archive, could a Plex staff member please send me the .exe file?

Got it. The trick worked, I just forgot so swap both version numbers. Got the file now. No more updates for Plex ever.

What do you mean by this?

I mean that as of now, I’m force-closing the Plex Update Service on my computer and will keep using the server and player versions I have now because I can’t trust Plex devs anymore. They’re removing basic stuff for no reason and I want the fully featured application that I was happy to pay for, in the state it was in before. That’s all.

What did they remove?

You know how in Windows itself as well as many different apps you can hold Ctrl and click on multiple files or elements or whatever to multi-select them? They removed that. You now have to aim at the small circle to multi-select the tracks you want to play, you can’t just conveniently hold Ctrl and click on them.

I know, tiny little thing, but that’s exactly my point - why would there be a need to remove something basic and minor like this? How many hours of development did it cost to maintain it? I just don’t want to lose anything in the future at all.

One of the key reasons why I chose Plex in the first place is because I was tired of streaming services removing movies or shows and now that I have my own private media server, I see features being removed from the app. Today it’s a small standard keyboard shortcut, tomorrow it could be rating, playlists, anything. probably something I wouldn’t even imagine. Anyway, I’m good with the versions I have now. Moving on

Is it possible that was a bug / oversight?

Was this on the hosted web app or your local copy?

It’s not a bug, it’s a design decision.

It was in the Plex for Windows app and I actually reported it as a bug, but they replied saying that they’re planning to make it work the same way as on the web, that is - they want to move the circle you can use to select individual tracks to the left side (now it’s on the right) and won’t support Ctrl+click.

After that I downloaded several older versions of Plex for Windows and had to go all the way back to Plex-1.14.0.1340-0acc754c-x86_64 - this is the last version where Ctrl+click is still active and the one I’ll keep using.

I suspect at Plex developers are allowed to make product decisions and this is a result of it. Devs always want to keep the code clean and remove as much code as possible while keeping things functional. In this case the idea is - if it’s possible to select individual tracks with the circle icon, then there’s no need to maintain the part of the code that supports the Ctrl+click shortcut. Of course this is a purely dev-centered idea, from the UX perspective the argument is - it’s so much easier and more convenient to be able to click anywhere within the line of a certain track while holding Ctrl as opposed to having to aim at those circles. Plus, Ctrl+click is a global shortcut even across operating systems.

I suspect Plex just doesn’t have a product team that’s always focused on usability so the dev team makes those decisions and it’s in the nature of every dev to want to reduce the codebase as much as possible so I get it from that point of view it just sucks to have to deal with this stuff as a customer, especially in this case. The irony is that people use Plex because they want to escape streaming services that keep removing media from their catalogues… and yet here there are features being removed from the app
