Hey there i just want to let you clever developers know with the new plex version 8+ you removed the old video player and killed plex app totally with it, ive spent several hours to figure out what the ■■■■ happend till i realised the function to deactivate the new player WAS ■■■■■■ DELETED?! i had to download the old 7 version to get it to work again while deactivate the new player, why in the world would you delete this feature so i can choose what player i use, and then the new one which is unchangeable is not working on any video… i mean srsly with plex… never touch a running system, i had to learn it the hard way…

Let’s curb it down a notch. This is still a public forum. You’re certainly entitled to rant… crossposting the same message in all kinds of threads won’t make this any better for you.
As for the issue at hand:
The new player had been around for quite some time. Even when it was made the standard player, Plex kept the old one around for… how long was it, 2 years…?
Maintaining two separate players takes a lot of effort. So we shouldn’t be all that surprised that the old one got removed eventually.
Other users used that stabilization period to raise whatever issues they still had with the new player in order to get them fixed.
Don’t get me wrong. I can see where you’re coming from and I get that this is frustrating to you. On the other hand you shouldn’t expect Plex to stick with the past forever for the sake of the last few stragglers (no offense… more a figure of speech).
i understand that, but why isit useful to delete a player which gives the possibility to still use plex if the new player only gives me an error and it says cant play video blabla the classic, and dont get me wrong here, i wanna keep it simple and dont wanna hav another app where i hav to report a log file because it wouldnt be neccessary in the first place if the old player would be just be there to use, so i cant understand it at all why it got deleted, sont maintain it, just keep the running system alive
Typically, the new player is much more powerful and will play more formats without the need to have it transcoded (less load for your server).
And while it might have appeared to remain untouched, there were still updates happening under the hood to keep the old player alive and going. So it does make a difference to Plex.
As per MovieFan.Plex’s point above… if you share the actual issue (e.g. accompanied with the client logs), Plex can probably fix that – if you don’t, you’ll need to live with certain media causing trouble
yeah ill live with it, i dont have the patience to even try, i lost enough hours of my life for stuff like that, and i dont transcode i stream original format, so even with or without subtitles its not working (i know while using subtitles it transcodes stupidly)
