Is this really how artist radio is supposed to work?

I am confused how artist radio is supposed to work. I found an artist with one other related artist. So when I click on the radio icon it put 2 songs in the queue, one for each artist. So we only get a single song per artist? Doesn’t seem particularly useful to me. I would expect it to pick multiple songs from each artist. I tried another artist with 2 related artists and sure enough it put in 3 songs, one from each artist. Same behavior on plexamp, roku and android

How many related artists are listed for the second artist?
How many songs do you have in your library of these artists?

Are any other music libraries shared with you, which have additional songs by these artists (or by related artists of them)?

The ‘artist radio’ works best, if you have a larger library with many artists which have related artists listed. (and those ‘related artists’ have other ‘related artists’ in turn).

So you only get a single song per artist?

no.

did you actually play the radio or just look at the generated playlist?

if you play it, plex will continuously add more songs as it reaches the end of the playlist.

Artist radio uses the original artist as an “inspiration” and plays mostly related artists and related artists of related artists.
Only from time to time the play queue will get a track inserted from the original artist.

If you are after a playlist of songs from only the original artist, use ‘shuffle’ instead.

@TeknoJunky I did play the radio and it did not add more entries and just stopped after 2 songs. Looks like I need to beef up my music collection :grinning:

Or get a share from someone with similar taste in music. It helps to beef up the radios.
Or get a Tidal subscription and link it to your Plex account. It is also used to augment the artist radio.

Grrr, Tidal is a sore spot for me. I paid for a premium subscription so I could have Tidal Flac on the Roku hooked up to my stereo. It worked for about a week and was then pulled. Nobody can say when it will be coming back for the Roku. Sorry just felt the need to vent.

try an artist with several related artists.

and yes, you need to have a large enough library, and even then artist radio is just ‘ok’.

Can I do a feature request? If there are only few related artists to pull from then bounce back and forth between those artists. Just stopping and giving up when there are still plenty of songs not used seems less than optimal.
