Libary Radio

How do you use Libary Radio on the computer and phone? Is it only available for Tidal subscribers? I do not see the feature on my plex account although i am a plex pass member.

Library Radio requires

  • a music library with a minimum amount of different artists
  • each artist needs to have information about ‘Related Artists’ and ‘Popular tracks’ to be present, which in turn requires that the music is ‘matched’ and not only thrown in with the Personal Media agent.

In the web app, all the radios are available on the ‘Recommended’ tab of the music library.

On Android, the Radios are right at the first page of the music library, just a little bit further down.
Where they are now on iOS, I don’t know, but I am sure they are present.

Thanks for the information. On my ios phone, I found the artist radio. Is that the same as the libary radio as well?

No, artist radio is something else. That one is available in the web app at the preplay page of every artist, at the top.

its different, but not sure if there has been an accurate explanation or technical description of how each ‘radio’ works.

Artist radio uses ‘Similar Artists’ info and ‘popular tracks’. With the starting artist as “seed” it travels along the related artists (and the related artists of those too). Playing the more popular or higher rated tracks of each.
It uses your own music library and those music libraries which were shared with you.
If you have a Tidal subscription, it will also use Tidal to fill in gaps.

that seems to jive with what my experience is.

artist radio is, to me, the currently the ‘best’ radio on offer, as is fairly decent for staying within a ‘type’ or genre of songs. But
the songs picked are not always the ‘hits’ and you can get a lot of ‘filler’ tracks even from popular artists.

library, time travel, and random album, to me, are not that great at finding good tracks.

plex mix (not currently available), used to be pretty great (better than artist radio).

another problem with the whole radio experience, is too much live tracks.

It is one thing to want to listen to a concert/live recording.

It is another entirely to have a crap live version of something you like, played in the middle of familiar studio tracks.

Thank you. With your help, I was able to find libary radio on the computer and artist radio on my iphone. Can you please send a screenshot of exactly where artist radio can be found on the web?

Yes I completely agree with you. Artist radio is decent. Libary radio is not so great. It pretty much sounds like a random shuffle of popular tracks. I’ve been seeking a plex music alternative for the past few days. I even tried downloading the older version of plex in hope of getting plex mix to no avail

Hmm. I don’t have that icon.

I wonder if that is because plex hasn’t refreshed this artist yet?

I will have to test that

Check if the artist has ‘Related Artists’ at the bottom. No Related artists – no radio.

Same i don’t have the icon as well.

plex relied on metadata from plex’s previous metadata provider (like moods etc).

so with that provider gone, plex mix doesn’t work.

ideally plex will come up with a similar, ideally better, mix system based on the acoustic id’s generated with the new music library.

Yes my artist has related artist at bottom. I can find artist radio on my iphone, but not on my computer for some reason.

Are you using the real web app?

Oh my apologies. I was able to find the icon! Thanks for your help. Much appreciated.
