Is transcoding supported on Plex Server on ARM?

The documents seem to be conflicting:

  • Page NAS Devices and Limitations:
    • "based on the ARM architecture–have capabilities low enough that transcoding is simply disabled altogether for them in Plex Media Server.",
      implying that more performant NAS do have transcoding support.
  • Page Is Plex Media Server on a NAS Right for Me? under "Will you need to transcode media for any of your Plex Apps?"
    • "Be an ARM or PowerPC (PPC) supported model",
      implying again that Plex can transcode on some ARM.
    • "Note: ARM and PPC models do not support transcoding at all.",
      noting transcoding is not supported on ARM by Plex.
  • Spreadsheet
    • No ARM device is marked as supporting transcoding, suggesting that there is no transcoding support.

 

ARM are cheaper and use less power. The main question is, can Plex Media Server run on some of them and transcode medias? I'd suggest to update the documents so as to resolve the conflicts.

 

PS: The spreadsheet is really cool. I'd only suggest you add filtering by default on columns so people can easily filter and sort (from menu Data > Filter)
