Is WinTV Extend required for WinTV-quadHD? - Windows 10

I have the 1609 version of the quadHD card and of course Plex won’t recognize it. I installed it with the downloaded WinTV-8 which does not include WinTV Extend. I could have used a 7.2 CD that I had from previous 2255 Pci cards. So, if I do need Extend, I can rip out the install and start over with 7.2, activate from the CD and then upgrade to 8. What do you think?

No idea if you’ve tried all you asked about, or how to help you otherwise, but, try the latest Plex server.

It added support for 'extra versions of the WinTV QuadHD"
Perhaps yours is included.

The latest PMS Build for Plex Pass (1.7.3.3937) includes QuadHD support.

I guess what I’m trying to figure out is what needs to run on the PC hosting the WinTV QuadHD tuner? For instance, when Plex searches the network for DVRs, what port is it expecting the TV tuner PC to be listening on? Also, I’ve installed WinTV 8 on a Windows 10 PC and the “HauppaugeTVServer” service is running. The “Hauppauge WinTV Extender” service is present but not running. So, I’m running the latest Plex 1.7xxxx server but need more “under the hood” information to figure out how Plex discovers DVRs/PC’s with tuners.

FWIW I have the QuadHD Tuner and it works. I installed the card, downloaded the Windows 10 drivers for the card so it would be recognized and then ran DVR setup. I don’t have ANY of the Hauppauge utilities installed other than the drivers.

@jlandgrave - Do you have Plex server installed on the same PC the card is installed on? My guess is that is what Plex server expects, and from what @hayeshouse is describing, he’s trying to use the DVR card from a remote Plex server. I’m betting (only from geek experience, not because I have the equipment you folks do) that a DVR card installed into a remote machine will not work for Plex server installed on another.

I have plex server installed on the same PC where the card is installed. The QuadHD card doesn’t have the ability to connect Via TCP/IP so I don’t see any possible way to access it from another machine.

Hmmmm… I don’t think having the DVR card installed on the same PC as Plex is a requirement; at least that’s not what I read from Plex’s explanation of how it works. Also, in the Plex admin web page, you click on a link to set up the DVR, the text reads: “Don’t see your device? Enter its network address manually.” I’m pretty sure Plex is looking for a remote device.

@hayeshouse - I can understand where you get that idea. but, it’s possible (and likely) Plex hasn’t clearly changed the instructions since when DVR was added and they only supported Silicon Dust HD Homerun devices. Those devices are only available as little box that sits there, and the only way to connect to them is through network cable.
Let’s hope an employee can confirm it for you.
@keithah - can you confirm. WinHD internal tuners have to be in the same machine as the Plex server, yes?
