Issue matching titles when "year" is defined

I’m using Plex Movies as my Movie agent but I noticed it matches little or no titles any more.
So I went fixing the match manually and noticed that the default search string, correctly use the fields:

title
year

however it doesn’t match anything. So no Plex automatic nor fix match.

At this point in fix match ifI remove the year and use the title only it will show matching results.
Interestingly enough the year reported in the results matches what Plex queries by default.

So long story short Plex doesn’t match, I need to “fix match…” manually and remove the year from the query to have any match of sort working.

Any tip on how to fix this?

Thanks!

If I understood the question right yes I do use my naming convention but that has been working for years now. There’s indeed an issue when the year is specified in the search this, as I understand, has nothing to do with folder/files name.

I thought I answered, sorry perhaps not very clear, let me rephrase:

I do rename the folders before moving under plex, however this renaming/naming convention is precisely the same for many years e.g. I haven’t change the way I do things.

As a side note I progressed, removed all the plug-ins and especially their cache and not at least the match works again.

The final piece of the puzzle is: occasionally matched movies have an empty description where the IMDB page does indeed have a description instead. Fixing the match manually (not really needed but just in case…) or refreshing the metadata don’t appear to fix this final problem. Only very few records affected though.

I think you’re overlooking at this. It used to work, it doesn’t work any more (until yesterday see my post above regarding plug-ins), my content folder naming convention is the very same as before for old and newly added content into Plex. I did not rename old content, I only rename folders before adding to the plex.

Regardless of this renaming the year does end-up correctly into the year field of the fix match. In this case the result of the search didn’t work and had to manually clear the field to have the matching work. The year filed did get populated with 4 digits only no extra chars e.g. 1983

I hope that answer your question, if not this is just a language barrier.

Funny thing about bad file names and structures…

They may work, may work for a while - right up until the time they stop working.
Proper File Names and Structure work today, tomorrow and the next day.

Don’t

Totally up to you.

Good luck.

Hello,

Im having a similar issue where the latest two movies ive added are needing to be “fix Matched” and when i search for the title in fix match it finds it and loads as if it usually would but for way too long and then never finds anything. the names of the titles arent anything irregular, coz it does find it in the database but then after ages doesnt load anything. can anyone offer a solution, or has anyone else encountered this specific issue?

Thanks

Changed naming convention as in your provided link and all good now

Old - Title Year Resolution - Not Matching
New - Title (Year) Resolution - Working
