Hi, not sure how to recreate this because it just happens for one of my libraries and not the other. Not sure if it is because I have a lot of collections in that library. What I know is that rolling back fixes the issue and it looks like others are having the same deal as you know. I would be more than happy to talk to someone about the issue further or even show someone the issue if need be.
I am also having this issue, and as NintendoFanBoyFTW said a roll back to PlexMediaServer-1.32.4.7195-7c8f9d3b6-x86_64 version fixes it
Hey glad to hear that worked for you too. By chance was this only happening with your TV library or was it happening with all libraries?
it happen in my movie lib (however i did not test the tv lib)
Interesting. I did notice on the earlier version that still works that when adding to or modifying collections on the library that does not work in later versions, it seems to take a long time to process with the spinning circle before it saves the changes. The library that has no issues in the newer version is almost instant when saving changes. Are you seeing the same behavior on your server with the older version as well?
They have not been able to replicate this at all yet so I am trying to get more info that they might be able to use
To add here ā
Anything which anyone can give me helps.
Even if a āI just did this and it failedā would be ideal!
Would it help to give you logs doing the exact same thing in both the older version which works and the newer version? I already gave you logs from the newer version but maybe giving both doing the same thing would show some differences what is going on
That wonāt help .
Figuring out HOW to break it / catch it is what we need.
- We can watch it break
- We can see what it did wrong
- Now we know what needs fixing
- Weāll have a way of confirming itās actually fixed too
Ok got it. Since I isolated the 2 updates between where it started happening, is there any chance to see any potential issues through the change tracking between those 2 versions?
I have a test system all setup.
What do I need to load and what should I do to prime it for failure?
So the only thing I can say about this would be, I have a TV and Movie library with a lot of media in it. I have over 100 collections in the TV library and basically any time I try to create a new collection or edit the properties of an item to edit itās collections, it fails. As some of the other users with this issue have said, they had the issue with their movie library and not TV, so I am not sure at that point how else to prime it.
Maybe you can try setting everything up on that previous version which works, then after a couple pieces of media have collections attached, update to latest version, and see if it has to do with upgrading to the new version as opposed to creating everything from scratch with the new version.
If you are still not able to recreate, I am willing to show you my system if need be, via discord or whatever means you are ok with, just so you can see everything in action, maybe run some tests yourself
Iām running manual tests myself now. Iāll start creating collections by hand until I have something. I have 928 full TV series in the test library so I should be able to come up with something.
Knowing you have 100 collections ā thatās an interesting number to keep on my mind because it could be as simple as a limit counter (this is pure speculation but not uncommon)
select A.B.C from X where Condition_N limit 100;
So I just went to get a definitive number on the collections.
In the TV Library where everything is not working, I have a total of:
192 collections with 11 of those being smart collections.
In the movie library, where there is nothing going wrong with the latest version, I have a total of:
363 collections with 21 of those being smart collections.
So that would make me think it is not a matter of how many collections per say. The only thing that to me looks large beside the number of collections in each library, would be that in both libraries, I have a collection called āZZZForceVisableā and in that collection TV has 304 items, while Movies only has 151 items. Only something to think about
This is again more info - Smart Collections ![]()
I just manually created a TV collection with 129 series in it - without issue.
I will start looking at smart collections too
Also I was taking a look at the change log for 1.32.5.7328-2632c9d3a. Do any of these things seem like something that would result in the issues we are seeing (or maybe that DB issue that you found from my logs with timestamps being off)
(EPG) Filters were constructed using timestamps in local server time instead of UTC (#14431)
(Filters) Date-based filters could be off by a day in some time zones (#14342)
(Library) New TV show theme songs would not get downloaded (#14451)
(Library) Poster previews in metadata edit screen could become blank if the selected poster failed to download (#14360)
(Music) In some cases, less popular tracks were picked in stations.
(Packaging) RPM packages are now signed using SHA-512 instead of SHA-1 (#14369).
(Photos) The server could exit unexpectedly when reading TIFF or RAW image files (#10924)
(Scanner) Movies and TV shows would fail to match when invoked from the scanner CLI (#14386)
(Transcoder) Hardware transcoding could fail on Intel Apollo Lake GPUs (#14359)
Not sure how I didnāt see this because I could have sworn this didnāt work last time I tried but I was just able to make a smart collection on the latest version. Obviously that is different from normal collections but still more data!!!
I hope I have enough batteries for the mouse-clicks Iām going to need for creating all those collections

LOL
Hey sorry Iām late to get back to the party. Busy week and I just got back to playing with my server.
I was able to successfully roll back a few days ago and collections seem to be working as expected. One note though, I added a large series yesterday and triggered a scan for my TV Shows collection. While waiting on that, I was going through and updating collections that got missed in my Movies and I noticed that I got the same fail to update 1-2 times. It seems like there is a timeout mechanism when reading/writing to collections; not sure whether thatās related to the bug weāre trying to track down.
On a different note, I have ~100 collections in Movies and 23 of them are smart collections. Not nearly as many as @NintendoFanBoyFTW, but 2 of mine are sorted by rating and then limited to 200 (out of 2304). If youāre not already aware, when doing this the collection appears to have your entire library in it until you open it. I imagine that means limiting a collection isnāt being treated the same as filtering one.
As for TV Shows, I only have ~10 collections and none of them are smart. I did have the opposite problem that @NintendoFanBoyFTW had though; my Movies collections were broken, but not my TV Shows. May or may not be related. (In case it matters, I have 266 TV Shows)
Hope that helps. Let me know if I can get you anything else.
It seems to me that part of the issue is some how related to very large librarys. I do not have any issues in any of my smaller library (tv show - I only have about 40 series) Christmas movies is another lib but no issues there either. My main movie lib is by far my biggest and that is where the issue with creating or deleting collections occurs. When ever i try to delete a collection manually it says that it is locked or that it failed. When i try to create a collection it also fails, i only noticed this when using an add-on that i used auto update my collections. (the add-on is plex metadata manager) and i uses this mainly to create and update collections. one example is that automatically for a week i create a collection for an actor birthday and then after a week the collection is deleted. anyways when i saw the same collections for over a week i knew something was wrong.
so i reinstalled the latest version and have the same issue.
this is the log message i get every-time i try to delete a collection:
[Req#1ff4] Exception inside transaction (inside=1) (/data/jenkins/server/3532787937/Library/LibrarySectionPutAll.cpp:845): bad lexical cast: source type value could not be interpreted as target
Got exception from request handler: bad lexical cast: source type value could not be interpreted as target
and every-time i try to add a movie to a collection i get this message:
MessageGot exception from request handler: bad lexical cast: source type value could not be interpreted as target
to me it looks like the developers changed a variable value type like a float to an integer or something like that.
(also before i re-upgraded i did clean the database and also deleted bundles)
