Issue with version 1.15.1.707, downgraded to 1.14.1.5488 and issue is gone

Hi Plex team, I upgraded from 1.14.1.5488 to 1.15.1.707 and encountered a few issues.

  1. stuttering on all movies from Nvidia shield, xbox and web player on PC
  2. None of my syncs are getting past 10%

I downgraded back to 1.14.1.5488 and all is ok. It seems 1.15.1.707 has an issue.
I didnt see a button to attach logs, so i have copied part of the log below

Previous upload is the 1.15.1.707 that has the issue.

Thank you for the logs but unfortunately I can’t see what PMS is trying to do.

You have DEBUG logging turned off.

Only with DEBUG logging turned on can I see what it is doing and help further.

Should you wish to reinstall PMS 1.15.1 and enable DEBUG (not VERBOSE) logging, then recreate the issue, I can then help find out the problem.

I suspect you are transcoding something which is either inducing swapping or pushing the CPU to near 100% utilization. HEVC, in software, will cause this on Xeon CPUs without QSV.

Hi ChuckPA,
I have a system with a newer CPU i52500K, half the cores but faster. should I prepare to move to that machine. Lastly is there a way to disable transcoding. I did have it set to original and the problem did not go away. Usually when it syncs i see it transcode on the ios app, this time it never tried to transcode (meaning the ios app never tried to transcode).

I will upgrade again in the next release after 1.15.1…707 and update the thread if the issue persists

There is no way to disable transcoding.
The Plex apps are smart enough to tell the server what they can do then Server & App negotiate the best. Direct Play is always first. Next is remux - through transcoder (very light resource usage) Next is DirectStream (audio converted only through transcoder), Lastly is full transcode of audio and video.

Same issue with upgrade from 1.14.1.5488 to 1.15.1.707 within a FreeNas jail using the PMS update script. Seems to be that a bunch of paths have changed.

One example is the lib files which used to be in the scriptdir of /usr/pbi/plexmediaserver-amd64/share/plexmediaserver is now in a subdirectory of /usr/pbi/plexmediaserver-amd64/share/plexmediaserver/lib. The service plexmediaserver will no longer start and shows errors about missing libs, no logs generated as even the log path changed to a path that doesn’t exist.

I recognize the issue. I am not familiar with BSD enough to fix it.

Were this Linux, I would suggest you can manually edit the start script to add LD_LIBRARY_PATH but forget how unix does it. My Unix knowledge stopped advancing with SunOS (BSD 4.2)

I actually tried that, also tried creating symlinks to overcome the lib path change but no change.

Rolled back to 1.14.1 for now.
