Issues about new experience

So first off I think we all agree the new app experience needs features added back and certain functionality restored. And we all agree some users are having real issues with the app. No dispute there!

But I believe some users are acting and posting mis-information in bad faith so they get the old app back. For example a user will claim X feature doesn’t work anymore and will be shown that the feature indeed does work for others, and instead of trying to investigate how to get the feature to work for them (or send the devs logs and crash reports) they just lash out and continue complaining instead of engaging in discourse that may (or may not) be able to fix the issue they have.

I think all users need to realize that 1. not all negative experiences with the app are universal and 2. not all positive experiences with the app are universal.

Sending logs and test files (if devs request them) while engaging in respectful discourse will help improve the new experience for everybody. But just complaining to jump on the hate train and/or posting incorrect information about current issues will help absolutely no-one and may lead the devs to investigate things they cannot replicate thus slowing the development of the new experience.

I’ve posted my problem, twice, to no avail. As others have with the same problem as my own. No response, nothing.
Some folks have limited technical ability. It doesn’t help that this forum is an abstruse mess.

Yeah your issues probably got buried in a sea of rants and raves and the devs never saw it. That’s what sucks because people who are actually using the app and have legit bugs to report are just getting drowned out.

Hopefully in a few weeks the forums return to sanity. And I hope someone responds to your issues soon man!

Actually, I saw that a plex employee looked at my post. Nothing.
No, “hey man, we’re working on it” no, “can you give me more info”. Not. A. Thing.
So I’m not sure that it’ll work out, if it does it’ll be by accident, I’m sure.
And to be honest, I don’t blame folks for having their rears chapped. This was poorly implemented, and there is no one out front stating the obvious, plex screwed the pooch here.

Which issue are you referring to?
I just checked your recent posts but couldn’t find a specific issue.

Here we go again.

When using the app on my iPad, I will put on a familiar movie, with no compelling plot and fall asleep to it.
Now, with the new “experience”, the app will restart the movie when before it would allow my iPad to lock. Or, it will show the “just played” image and it will restart the movie only it will stay on the “just played” screen and only produce the movie audio. Or, it will display the “just played” screen but won’t allow my iPad to lock. I will wake up to a nearly dead battery when this happens.
I know it’s the app because I am using the safari web page to view movies and it doesn’t do it.
Although I do notice with safari some movies won’t display the progress bar correctly, ie it will just sit there and no longer advance.

Check April 23rd, I posted then.

Which exact version of the new Plex app do you have installed on the iPad? The current public release (2025.15.0) or today‘s TestFlight beta (2025.16.0)?
On what version of iPadOS / what iPad model are you experiencing this?

The current public release. M1 iPad Pro 13inch iPadOS 18.4.1

Probably not an os issue as when I use appletv max Amazon etc, they all allow my iPad to lock.

As does plex when I use Safari browser.

In case you had trouble finding my post.

BTW, I’m not alone with this issue. There just aren’t a lot of people that use their iPad in the manner I do. I guarantee this is a global iPadOS/ipados issue.

Well, at least it looks like this hasn’t made it to the release notes of 2025.16.0.
I haven’t seen this one myself, so there’s not much (anything) I can advise at this point.

If this were open source software, I might agree: we could all pitch in and submit logs and feedback.

But it’s not. It was working software that I paid for and then someone utterly broke it.

  • My downloads didn’t get ported, leaving me on a 4 hour flight without the media I’d planned to watch.
  • I can’t download movies. Stuck in “queued” forever. So my offline watching is borked.
  • The UI locks up if you long press an item like the selected library at the top, then exiting, then trying to select the library at the top. Repeatable and reported.

On top of that, the new Home experience was awful until I disabled everything (which has to be done server side, unintuitively). Features are just gone. Playlists are wonky.

So to expect it to be my responsibility to be an alpha tester and submit logs and report every bug (bugs that were immediately obvious within five minutes?!) seems ridiculous. I didn’t sign up to be an alpha tester and I’m not going to contribute my time for free.

I’ve reported two issues in the last three years and neither was fixed. I reported five issues in the last two weeks and none have been fixed. But keep doing it, keep donating my time for free and maybe someday something might happen!

I paid for something that worked. We were happy. They then broke it. It’s not my responsibility to donate my time for free, to help them develop something new that works.

If there was a new announcement that said “guys, we screwed up big time and we are sorry” that would help. But so far it’s just been either silence or “you guys are overreacting.” Frustrating.

I’m also getting the “just played” screen and audio only on an android tablet on things I’ve downloaded, even if I have played other things since. Seems it doesn’t want you to rewatch stuff

Turns out you need to hit the replay button twice for some reason. First one starts the audio only. Weird

Mine is also so broken it’s non-functional on iOS. Roku app seems to be fine. I can’t stream without episodes restarting or getting playback errors.
