So I have a strange issue. I have a friend who reached out to me and informed me a show she’s been watching on her phone just stopped working at Season 1 Episode 8. She’s been using my server a while without much issue. But she just gets an error saying:
“An error occured while attempting to play this video. Please check your connection and try again.”
Ok this happens sometimes so I launch up my plex on my desktop and play the show. It plays fine. Had her do the normal troubleshooting. And she’s still having issues. I launch up the show on my phone and I get the error. For some reason this show, starting at Season 1 Episode 8 (The Morning Show) and onwards will not play on the android app. But plays perfectly fine on desktop.
Other shows in MKV format work fine on my phone it’s just this specific one. I’ve looked at the logs and it looks like it’s just dropping with zero explanation. I’ve tried on and off network so I doubt it’s a networking issue.
Plex is direct playing, but, as you noticed, the client disconnects.
Given that everything else plays OK, there is something in the file the Plex app does not like.
Try forcing a transcode. In the Plex phone app, change the remote quality to a bitrate low enough to force a transcode, then stream it over the mobile network.
If it plays OK, you can try remuxing the file (MKVToolNix) or re-encoding it (Handbrake, etc).
Otherwise, see if you can acquire a copy from a different source.
I’m having the same issue, and I believe it has something to do with the audio quality. The only episodes that don’t work on mobile for me (and my sharees) are the episodes with the EAC3 5.1 audio. Everything else works fine. Still trying to find a solution, but that seems to be the common problem
I had the same issue, where certain movies/TV show episodes will play on some devices but not others. What I did to solve the issue was delete the contents of my codecs folder (within the Plex appdata folder) and restart Plex from your docker. Make sure to delete the contents of the folder, not the folder itself. Not sure if it will work for you, but it solved my problems
