I’ve had a weird issue for a while now where certain seasons of TV just don’t play… It happens to random seasons as well, for example, the latest Silicon Valley season, Handmaids Tale S02, Westworld S02… They just refuse to play on Plex but if I access the files locally on VLC or similar they work fine, additionally they work fine locally on my LG TV using the Plex app.
Trying to play them on the web app they spin for ages then eventually error out. Looking at the now playing I was thinking it was some audio transcoding issue as on Handmaids Tale it was trying to transcode EAC3 to AAC but Westworld just shows as direct play for both video and audio and has the same issue.
I’ve checked for database issues of which it found none but I repaired it anyway and still nothing.
For reference I’m running PMS on unRAID using the Binhex Docker image and the PlexPass variation.
My laptop is a lower end unit that will not play at a high setting, where as our banging main computer has no issues playing any movie with the Plex App. I have to lower the setting to watch on my poor outdated laptop with plex app. watching some HD’s or I just get a blank screen.
I’m far from an expert on PMS but my experience at home is bandwidth issues to wireless devices that are in HD. My ROKU TV ‘an older model’ has only wireless connectivity, on a bad day PMS sending the too much data streaming to TV making it seem like it’s just one video causing the issue. Try lowering the app. resolution down to see if problem resolves. Even a home wired network might become congested enough to have bandwidth problems at times.
I have a remote Android TV Box running Plex at work for my breaks and on that unit I have to lower the setting even farther because of bandwidth there, it sucks but… Making up a few pre-Optimized version of any new videos in advance seems to work real well for the remote Android TV Box as you have to select it at the start or pre-set the Plex App to use only a lower bandwidth option.
Maybe someone else help with other better options.
Transcoding is definitely not the issue as these are fairly low quality 720P files whereas I routinely play 1080p fine and 4k. This should be direct play anyway… Also all my setup is wired
