Some Media No Longer Playable

Server Version#: 1.18.4.2171
Player Version#: (n/a)

I’m not sure exactly what happened in the last week, but suddenly certain media that played fine no longer plays remotely. I have a friend who uses Plex on his Roku and another who uses Plex on his TV, neither of which can access certain files anymore. I’ve tested it on my iPhone using my cell provider instead of WIFI as well as plex.tv through my web browser and can confirm it happens to me too. As far as I can tell nothing has changed, and the files vary from MKV to MP4, 720p to 1080p. When I go to Playback Info on my phone the Transcode Reason for not playing is: Not enough bandwidth for direct play of this item. Required bandwidth <###>kbps and only 1500kbps is available. (The ### varies but is always higher than 1500.)

I would think that Plex would auto transcode to a lower bitrate so the video could play, but that’s not happening and sticks with Direct Play. But, again, this wasn’t happening a week ago and no settings have changed that I can tell.

Can anyone give me a few ideas what’s going on and how I can resolve it?

Same problem here. File is an audio file AIFF-C 48.8MB in size (4min 36 seconds 44.1KHz 16 bit sampling) so its pretty small and message is:

Not enough bandwidth for any playback of this item. Cannot convert to below minimum bandwidth of 101kbps.

FYI, If I change player to Plex Web Version 4.22.2 the file will play back, locally the file plays back to Web player and FireTV app.

Hope this further information helps to sort the problem.
